Blind-Sided in the Blinds, Papola Gives Up Some Chips

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Jeffrey Papola just got involved in a blind-vs.-blind battle that resulted in a significant change to his stack.

With the board showing {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and about 4,000 already in the middle, Papola bet 2,100 from the small blind, and his opponent in the big blind raised all in for more than 20,000. Papola thought for about a minute, then finally made the call, turning over {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. The table reacted audibly when his opponent tabled his {8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for two pair.

The turn was the {A-Clubs} and river the {8-Spades}, improving Papola's opponent's hand to a boat and awarding him the sizable pot. Papola gets knocked back just under 40,000 after that hand.

Kerstetter Kisses Some Goodbye

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Jamie Kerstetter was heads up with an opponent with the board reading {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Kerstetter's opponent led out and she raised all in. Her opponent tanked for a bit before making the call and turned over {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for a turned straight. Kerstetter was bluffing with the {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, but could chop the pot with a nine and scoop it with a heart.

The river was a brick however, and Kerstetter is left with around 10,000 chips.

Online Okay, Live Let It Go?

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

A player in middle position open-raised all in for about 10,000, and it folded around to Paul "paulgees81" Volpe in the small blind. Volpe -- a highly-successful online player -- checked his cards and thought for a while, appearing as though he may call, before finally letting his hand go.

The big blind folded as well, prompting the all-in player to say to Volpe, "Online, you call." Volpe would neither confirm nor deny the suggestion, wordlessly smiling in response.

Volpe was down in the early going, but has worked his stack back up around 48,000 at present.

Pollack Playing Injured

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

On Tuesday, Ryan Pollack, a native of Atco, New Jersey, had back surgery resulting in a giant scar and a lot of soreness. Today, he is playing in the WSOP-C Main Event here at Caesars despite being in great pain. From time to time Pollack can't handle the pain so he ditches his chair and kneels on the ground with a pillow to protect his knees. Recently a floorperson offered to give him a dealer's chair, but his back would still hurt because its in the sitting position.

Neither kneeling nor sitting are detering Pollack - he's sitting with 35,000 chips.

Another Shorty With a Shak Attack

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

In a blind-vs.-blind, preflop all-in situation with her opponent sitting to her left, Beth Shak just lost about 6,000 from her stack. She was ahead with {A-}{2-} versus her foe's {K-Spades}{8-Spades}, but the board came {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, giving the big blind a better pair and the pot.

"I haven't won one all in when I've been ahead today," said Shak. Indeed, that wasn't the first time we've seen a short stack double through with a worse starter against her today. She's at about 28,000 at present.

Finne Doing Fine

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Two players remained in the hand. The board showed {J-Clubs}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, and Timothy Finne's opponent had checked. After some thought, Finne bet 2,700, only to get check-raised to 7,700. He considered the situation further, then made the call, bringing the total pot to about 22,000.

The turn brought the {3-Clubs} and another check from Finne's opponent. Finne sat for a minute fiddling with his chips, then plucked off his stacks a gray (5,000), three oranges (1,000 each), a purple (500), and five blacks (100), for a bet of 9,000. Finne's opponent gazed at the small tower for a half-minute before tossing his cards dealerward.

Finne chips up close to 60,000 on that one.

More Chips for Chaplin

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

When we reached Joe Chaplin's table the board read {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and Chaplin was faced with a 5,000-chip bet. He grabbed a tall stack of chips and slid them in the center, moving all in for effectively 17,000. His opponent tank-folded, showing the {4-Clubs} and Chaplin offered to show one. The card his opponent chose was the {k-Diamonds}, adding to the intrigue.

Chaplin raked in the pot and is now up over 60,000 chips.

Crane Adds to Pollack's Pain

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ryan Pollack and Russell Crane were just involved in a large one.

By the river the board was all black, the five community cards {3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. The pot had grown to about 15,000, and Pollack pushed out a bet of 2,500 hoping that would be enough to claim it. Crane had other thoughts in mind, however, raising Pollack with a total bet of 13,200.

Pollack went into the tank. "How much do you have left?" he asked with a smile, then waved his hand to indicate he was joking as Crane had considerably more. Pollack -- playing from a kneeling position because of his recent back surgery -- seemed to be more pained by Crane's bet than his sore back.

Finally he called, and Crane quickly showed {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a club flush. "Good hand," said Pollack wearily, was down to just 10,100 after paying that one off. Crane, meanwhile, is up around 80,000.

Unfortunately for Pollack, he'd lose his remaining chips shortly thereafter, hitting the rail just as the field had shrunk to 200.
