Andrew Moreno
Andrew Moreno

On the board of {Q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, Yousri Ali and Andrew Moreno were wrapped up in a pot. Ali checked the turn to Moreno. A bet of 2,500 came from Moreno and Ali quickly made the call to see the {6-Diamonds} fall on the river. Ali checked again and Moreno slid forward a bet of 3,900. Ali called quickly and Moreno tabled the {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Ali nodded his head and showed just the {Q-Clubs} before mucking his hand.

Ali dropped to 16,000 while Moreno jumped to 28,000 in chips.

Kruger Wins the Pot, Gets Leveled

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

Jerry Yang opened the pot with an early-position raise to 300, and he found action from three players, including Justin Kruger who came along from the blinds. The dealer burned and ran out a {8-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} flop, and Kruger check-called a continuation bet of 900 to go heads-up the rest of the way. There were 3,100 chips in the pot as the dealer put the {K-Spades} down on the turn. When Kruger checked again, Yang fired a second bullet worth 2,200, and that was quickly called as well.

That brought them to the river {4-Diamonds}, and now Kruger fired out into the pot with 2,800 of his own chips. Yang immediately sunk in his chair, and he leaned back and shook his head for a minute before double-checking his cards. It was {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} in the hole for Yang, and he eventually let it go with a sigh. Kruger did him the courtesy of flashing the {K-Diamonds}.

"Gotta show to cards to win," Yang said. Kruger may not have realized that his hand wasn't called, and he went ahead and tabled his {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} as the dealer pushed the chips. Yang simply nodded at the free information.

Kruger is up to 26,500, while Yang slides back to 21,025.

One Eighty-Eight

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

Registration has closed, and the number has been locked in.

It's 188 players for this latest WSOP-C Main Event, making it the smallest of the ten Main Events so far. It's also one of the most amateur-heavy fields we've seen this season, so at least there is some good value for the notables who've made the trek here to the hills outside of San Diego.

How about the money? With the small field, just 21 places will pay out cash this weekend with the bottom level being worth $3,000, nearly twice the buy-in. Make it to the final table and you've guaranteed yourself at least $6,335, and the top three finishers will all take more than $30,000. Outlast the field and you'll get to slip a diamond-and-gold ring on your finger and cash a check for $70,384. The full breakdown of the prizepool is in the "Payouts" tab up there.

Two Circuit RIng Winners Go At It

Two World Series of Poker Circuit gold ring winners battled in this pot with the flop of {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{8-Clubs} in the middle of the table. Alex Maturi won the $555 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed event here in Rincon for $10,790 a few days ago and checked to Tom Masinter. Masinter's ring came back in November when he won a $345 No-Limit Hold'em event at Harvey's Lake Tahoe for $21,147. Masinter bet 1,625 and Maturi made the call.

The turn brought the {9-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {10-Diamonds} fall on the river. Maturi bet 3,150 and Masinter made the call.

Maturi tabled the {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} announcing, "Two pair." Masinter tabled the {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for a straight on the river, although he was good the entire way.

Kim Check-Raised on Turn by Bottom Pair

Action was checked to Brian Kim on the flop of {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. Kim bet 725 and his opponent made the call.

The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} and the player checked to Kim once again. Kim bet 1,700 and his opponent check-raised to 3,650. Kim thought about it long and hard, but eventually gave it up. His opponent tabled the {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

Baker's Stack Rises

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

In a raised pot, three players including David Baker saw a flop of {4-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. Baker was in the middle, but he led the betting with 1,125 chips. The player behind him called while the out-of-position player checked and folded.

That got them heads up to the {10-Clubs} turn, and Baker check-called 2,000 this time. The river came the {K-Spades}, and Baker checked again. His opponent made one last stab, flicking out 3,300 chips, and Baker looked him up with the call.

The unknown player showed {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} for the miss, and Baker's {Q-Clubs} {10-Spades} was good enough to take down the pot and push him up to about 29,000.

Jackson Turns Two

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

David Baker opened to 475 from early position, and Gregory Sessler reraised to 1,200 two seats over. Devin Jackson and Blake [Removed:292] both called, and Baker splashed in the extra 725 to see a flop.

It came {J-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}, and the first three players checked to Jackson. With just 5,325 chips left in front of him, Jackson moved all in minus the one green T25 chip he still had covering his cards. That folded [Removed:292] and Baker, but Sessler made the call with the covering stack, putting Jackson at risk and in bad shape as the cards were turned up:

Sessler: {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts}
Jackson: {7-Clubs} {9-Clubs}

Jackson's bottom pair had him in a bad way, but the dealer saved his tournament life as the turn {7-Spades} gave him two pair. One card from the double up, Jackson faded the river as the {2-Clubs} was safe and sound.

Kim Asks the Question

Brian Kim checked the flop of {K-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} to Chris Farmer. He bet 1,150 and the third player in the hand made the call. Kim check-raised to 3,200 and that knocked Farmer out of the way. The other player called.

The {A-Diamonds} fell on the turn and with 16,650 behind, Kim bet 5,350. His opponent took a minute and then moved all in for 15,350. Kim thought for a tiny bit and then asked, "Will you show me if I fold?"

His opponent quickly responded, "Yes."

Kim just as quickly said, "I fold," and gave it up. His opponent showed the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.
