Miscikowski Gets that Squeezy Feeling

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

A player in early position opened with a raise to 1,250, and Eddy Sabat called from middle position. Around in the blinds, David Miscikowski squeezed in a reraise to 4,000 straight, and both players who'd already put chips in the pot called the extra to see the flop.

It came {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {A-Spades}, and Miscikowski deliberately bet 7,600. Fold-fold quickly came, and Miscikowski flashed the {2-Spades} as he raked in the pot. It moves him up over 100,000 and into contention for the chip lead.

"Cocktails!"

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Victor Ramdin's table recently broke, and he's now joined David Baker, Allen Kessler, Steven Burkholder, and Pat Walsh. With about 45 minutes left in the day, Ramdin figures it's time to enjoy this last level.

"Cocktails!" Ramdin yelled out. "Who's drinking? You? What are you having? You? You?" Ramdin went around the table taking everyone's preliminary drink order. Even the few spectators on the rail got the offer. For that matter, even the saintly Allen Kessler ordered up a Tanqueray and tonic -- then retracted his order with a boyish smirk.

Cocktails are coming Table Ramdin, as if he needed any liquid courage.

Brooks Straightens Morgan

On the flop of {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, Jordan Morgan bet 2,500 into Gregory Brooks. The turn then brought the {10-Diamonds} to the board and Morgan checked. Brooks checked behind.

The river completed the board with the {4-Spades} and Morgan led for 2,000. Brooks raised to 8,200 and Morgan called.

Brooks tabled the {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for a turned straight and Morgan mucked his hand.

Hellmuth Looking For Inspiration in Seidel

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Phil Hellmuth just stepped away from his table to have a quick chat with Erik Seidel at the adjacent table. It was a quick back-and-forth, but it ended with Hellmuth making a tongue-in-cheek comment about what an inspiration Seidel was to him.

The quick-witted Seidel took the joke the rest of the way. "I am kind of an inspiration, you know?" Seidel began. "They're like, 'This guy's a donkey, and he's winning. I can do that.'" The table chuckled, and Seidel kept right on going. "That's inspiration. 'Look at all the guys that came from backgammon. They're donks and they're winning. Poker must be easy.'"

Hellmuth Raising His Kings

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

Ali Eslami raised to 850 from under the gun before Phil Hellmuth reraised to 2,050 from late position. The big blind made the call and Eslami called.

The flop came down {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and the big blind bet 2,300. Eslami called and then Hellmuth raised to 10,000. Both the big blind and Eslami folded and Hellmuth said, "I slow played this hand the other day. It didn't work out well for me," and showed the {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

Hellmuth is up to 43,000 in chips now.

Little Loses a Bit

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

Jonathan Little raised to 900 from the button, and Brian Green defended his big blind to see the flop.

It came {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}, and Green check-called 1,500 from Little. he check-called another 3,000 after the {3-Spades} turn, and the {3-Diamonds} river put two pair on board. Green now led out into the pot with 5,150 chips, and Little made the call to see what was what.

Green showed {Q-Hearts} {9-Clubs} for the boat, and Little mucked his way down to 19,500. Green is up to 43,500 by virtue of that pot.

Liebert Turns Purple

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante
Kathy Liebert and Matt Waxman, both now eliminated
Kathy Liebert and Matt Waxman, both now eliminated

"Well, it's official," Kathy Liebert said as she came walking past our desk. "I'm leaving."

Liebert has just become another casualty of this tough day, her exit coming in a blind-versus-blind tangle. Liebert's {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} were easily enough to get in with, and her opponent was flipping with two jacks.

Despite finding the {Q-Diamonds} and {10-Diamonds} on the flop, Liebert could not find one of the myriad outs she needed, sending her out in a whirlwind of purple fabric.

Exit Cheong

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

Joseph Cheong got all his money in before the flop with pocket nines, running them smack into the {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} of the player to his left.

The board came running {5-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}, and Cheong has become the latest victim of this Day 1 which has a quickening pace here as the evening wears on. There are just 69 players left.

Baking an Elimination

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

From the hijack seat, Pat Walsh raised to 1,100. David Baker called from the small blind and the player in the big blind also called.

The flop came down {10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and action checked to Walsh. He bet 2,000 and Baker made the call. The big blind moved all in for 8,575. Walsh folded and then Baker tanked long and hard. Eventually, he made the call.

Baker: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Big Blind: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

The turn brought the {9-Hearts} and the river the {10-Spades}. Both of those missed the all-in opponent of Baker and kept the eights in front. Baker won the pot, eliminating the player and moving to 43,000 in chips.
