Day 1 of the 2010-11 World Series of Poker Circuit $10,000 Regional Championship – Rincon took place on Sunday. A field of 91 entrants came out to play and after eight levels of play, about 60 of them remained. Leading the way is Ali Eslami with 128,500 in chips.
Even though the field was a small one, there was plenty of talent packed into the tournament room upstairs on the second floor of Harrah’s Rincon. Former WSOP Main Event champions Carlos Mortensen, Jerry Yang and Phil Hellmuth were all in action, but Hellmuth showed up late as usual. He battled some food poisoning for the first part of the day before finally making his way down to the tournament at the start of the second to last level. Along with them, Erik Seidel, Justin Smith, Shannon Shorr, Matt Waxman, Adam Levy and Kathy Liebert were in the field.
Registration is still open throughout the night and into tomorrow. Players will be able to register through Level 9 of this Regional Championship event, which means one level of play on Monday’s Day 2. That should add a few more late arrivals to the list and allow the field to creep towards the 100-player mark.
Here's how the field will be set up to begin play:

"Why are you such a badass?"
That's the question Kristy Arnett asked Erik Seidel earlier in "Calling the Clock". As it turns out, Seidel does occasionally lose tournaments. He's still a badass though. The lanky pro just strode past our table and out the door with his iPad in tow, and that can only mean that he's been relieved of the ~14,000 chips he had at last count.
Check out Erik and Kristy in "Calling the Clock" earlier today:

In a raised pot, Sam Stein and Mike Baxter watched the dealer put out a flop of . Stein knocked the table, and Baxter put out a bet of 4,200. Stein check-raised all in for 13,850, and Baxter called to try and get the rest of Stein's chips.
Showdown
Baxter:
Stein:
Things were not looking good for Stein, and the turn was no help. The river was, though, improving Stein to two pair and allowing him to double up and stay alive.
"Well, I'm not going to post that one anywhere," Stein said flatly.
Don't worry Sam, we'll do it for you. "Tell them we got it all in on the river," he joked as we walked away.
Kyle Bowker raied to 1,300 from middle position and a player in late position called. The small blind also called and then Phil Hellmuth reraised to 7,300 from the big blind. Bowker called and the player in late position called while the small blind folded.
The flop came down and everyone checked. The turn added the to the board and Hellmuth bet 10,000. Only Bowker made the call.
The river completed the board with the . There was now a pair of fours on board and Hellmuth checked. Bowker moved all in, having Hellmuth and his remaining 22,000 covered. Hellmuth tanked for a bit while going through the usual Hellmuth antics. Eventually, Hellmuth laid down his hand, showing the and claiming that he almost called with the ace high.
Hellmuth dropped to 22,000 and Bowker moved to 75,000 in chips.
A player in early position raised to 1,500, and Dana Kellstrom three-bet to 4,000 straight a few seats over. The initial raiser called, and off they went to the flop. The raiser now led out into the pot with a bet of 5,000 which Kellstrom called, and the landed on fourth street. With about 19,000 chips left in front of him, the unknown gentleman shoved all in, and Kellstrom instantly called with his covering stack.
Kellstrom turned up , and he had his opponent's drawing dead to the river. With that knockout, Kellstrom moves up to about 65,000.
Sam Stein just called a bet of 10,000 on the river with the board reading . Mike Baxter was the player who had bet and after he got called, Baxter tabled the for a diamond king-high flush. Stein mucked and dropped to 21,000. Baxter moved to 112,000 and into the chip lead.
