Day 1b In The Books: Fielder Leads The Way

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We have just finished another twelve hour day here at Caeser’s Palace, and the 76 remaining players have bagged and tagged their chips. They will return tomorrow along with the 58 players from yesterday’s Day 1, where we will play through the money bubble, and hopefully, to a final table. At the end of the night, Jeff Fielder is in the lead with 437,500 chips, which by our counts, is nearly double anyone else in the room.

Fielder ascended to the top when he won a massive pot late in the day against Mark Kroon, who at the time was second in chips. Kroon opened the pot with a raise to 6,100 and was called by Fielder and both of the players in the blinds.

The board read {4-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Kroon fired out on the flop, turn, and then check raised the river After some more thought, Fielder decided he had to make the call. "Nice call," Kroon praised. Fielder tabled {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts} to scoop the nearly 250,000 chip pot.

This event was a re-entry event, meaning that anyone who busted out in yesterday’s Day 1a could re-enter today if they chose to do so. Several players elected to do that, including Giorgio Medici, Eric Baldwin, Steve Gross, David Singontiko, and David Williams. Unfortunately for all of them they will not be coming back for Day 2.

Other players including Jamie Gold, Steve Billirakis, Frank Kassela, Eli Elezra, Gavin Smith, and Bryan Devonshire just registered for today’s flight of play, but all of them suffered the same fate as those just mentioned.

There were a few big names that did make it through however. Jeff Madsen made it through with plenty of chips (181,500), as well as Vanessa Ping (110,000), Kathy Liebert (100,500), Dutch Boyd (93,500), and Scott Clements (80,000). They will all move on to tomorrow, where they will join William Reynolds, Sean Getzwiller, Gavin Griffin, Dan O’Brien, and James Carroll, amongst others.

Fielder will be the biggest stack in the room tomorrow, while the chip leader from yesterday, Joe Kuether(380,500), will be next in line.

The remaining 134 players will return tomorrow at 4 PM, where they will play down to either a final table, or through 12 hours of play. Be sure to come back to PokerNews tomorrow as we will have all the flops, turns, and rivers from here at Caeser’s Palace.
