Bazeley Lays it Down

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

An early position player limped for 200 and action folded to Jacob Bazeley on the button and he made it 700 to go. The small blind called, as well as, the original limper. The flop came {6-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {3-Hearts} and action checked to Bazeley. He bet 1,100, the small blind called and the limper folded. The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} on board and both players checked to see the {K-Clubs} river.

The small blind bet 2,000 and Bazeley took a few moments before mucking his hand.

Masek Penalized

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

We just heard a floor call, so we followed the suit over to the table in question to see what was what. When we arrived to the preflop action, Alexandru Masek's cards were mucked with the {7-Clubs} showing up. He had accidentally exposed a card as he folded, and that's a very bad thing indeed. Here on the WSOP Circuit, exposing cards with action pending is nearly always cause for a penalty, and Masek was given an orbit off for his mistake.

Gates Fighting Back

The player from under the gun limped into the pot and action folded around to Garry Gates in the big blind. Gates tapped the table and the flop rolled out {7-Spades} {5-Clubs} {J-Hearts}. Both players checked and the turn came {8-Diamonds}. The UTG player bet 200 and Gates called. The river brought the {7-Hearts} and both players checked again. Gates tabled {A-} {8-} and his opponent mucked.

Another Cometh

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante

The player counter on the clock had been stuck at 191 for several hours, but it has just ticked up by one. We're not sure who the last latecomer was, but it's brought us up to 192 players so far, with registration open right until the end of the flight.

To buy in any later than this would be less than ideal, however. The Day 1b flight kicks off at 7:00pm this evening.

DeBo Makes 'Em Fold

Gary DeBernardi
Gary DeBernardi

A middle position player opened the pot to 550, Dennis Phillips called from the button, Gary DeBernardi called from the small blind and the big blind came along too. The flop came {8-Hearts} {7-Spades} {7-Hearts} and action checked all the way around. The turn came {2-Spades} and DeBernari bet 850. The bet was sufficient to for everyone to fold except for Phillips.

The river fell {7-Diamonds} and DeBernardi bet 1,000 and Phillips muttered under his breath something along the lines of what he could bet. Apparently, he couldn't beat much as he tossed his cards back to the dealer, surrendering the pot to DeBernardi.

"Wat da hell?"

If you've spent any time around the WSOPC Main Events, you're familiar with Matt Chang's catch phrase. Unfortunately for the East-Coaster, his run here in Council Bluffs has come to a (temporary) end. Chang was awfully short on chips when he got involved in a multi-way pot that flopped {A-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}. When it checked to him, Chang stuck the last of his stack in there, and when two players called, he stood up and started to gather his things. The turn and river came {Q-Spades} and {4-Diamonds} with the two live players mixing it up in some side action. At showdown, one of them was able to show {8-Clubs} {10-Clubs} for the straight, and that's the end of Day 1b for Chang.

"You coming back?" we asked him sheepishly.

"Not sure yet," he said flatly, expressing as much frustration as you'll see from the gregarious regular.

H0 Wants to Know

Mark Kroon
Mark Kroon

Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon is one of the most entertaining people you'll find at the poker table, and he's spent the bulk of his day playing the role of class clown.

"What's the chip leader got?" he asked as we passed by just a moment ago. There are a couple players with 55,000 and a couple more with 50,000, and Kroon is among those big stacks.

"Don't think anyone has sixty yet," we answered.

"I got fifty-five!" Kroon couldn't help his smile. The other half of Wisconsin's finest, Gary DeBernardi, is doing similarly well as he hovers with about 40,000 or so at the moment.
