Roll Tide; Crawford Leads After Day 2

Level 26 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Claudia Crawford - Chip Leader
Claudia Crawford - Chip Leader

Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event here at the Horseshoe Hammond Casino is in the books, and your end-of-day chip leader is Claudia Crawford with 3.426 million chips.

Joining Crawford on Day 3 will be Brad Albrinck, Josh Williams, James Henson, Tripp Kirk, and 24 other hopefuls.

An extra two dozen players joined the action on Day 2, poneying up $1,675 for less than 10 big blinds. Robert and Michael Mizrachi were among the mega-late entrants, but both of them were quickly eliminated.

Phillip Liou didn’t buy in today, he was one of the initial chip leaders, but unfortunately he was eliminated before play concluded for the evening. Many other notables cashed but failed to survive the day, including Kathy Liebert, Jonathan Tamayo, Ryan Lenaghan, Ryan Julius, Mike Leah, Blair Hinkle, Aaron Steury, Mukul Pahuja, and Ty Reiman.

Crawford shot up the charts in the middle of the day, eliminating James Nelson holding {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} against Nelson’s {a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Crawford held as the board came {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}{5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, and crossed the 775,000-chip threshold. She quickly crossed 1 million chips, and then she won a near 2 million-chip pot off of Charles Donahue.

Donahue, Crawford and Josh Williams all saw a flop of {q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Spades}. Crawford fired 40,000, Williams called, and Donahue raised to around 100,000. Only Crawford called. The turn was the {a-Diamonds}, and Donahue led for 148,000. Crawford raised to 308,000, Donahue moved all in for 813,000, and Crawford tank-called. Crawford’s {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} led Donahue’s {10-Spades}{7-Spades}, and held when the {5-Diamonds} completed the board.

Crawford’s stack continued to grow through the latter levels, and she peaked during the final level.

Albrinck, who finished the day second in chips, also went on a heater during the latter levels of the day. He busted Steve Verrett, and Kyle Weir en route to bagging 2.71 million chips.

The 29 remaining players will return tomorrow at 1 p.m. local time, and we will play until a winner is crowned. For now, good night from Hammond, Indiana!

Hiren "Sunny" Patel

Hiren "Sunny" Patel was involved in a pot on the {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop against James Henson. Patel bet 78,000 on the flop, and Henson made the call to see fourth street.

The turn was the {Q-Clubs}, and Patel checked with a stack of roughly 325,000. Henson bet 100,000, then Patel check-raised all in. Henson snapped with the {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for a set of sevens. Patel was drawing to a Broadway straight with the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}.

The {2-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, and Patel was eliminated. Henson collected the pot and moved over 1.4 million in chips.

The Tide Rolls Over Super Tuan

Kenny Nguyen
Kenny Nguyen

Kenny "Super Tuan" Nguyen checked the {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop, and Claudia Crawford bet 25,000. Nguyen check-raised to 75,000 with 137,000 behind, but Crawford wanted to play for it all and reraised all in.

Nguyen began to tank. At one point during his thought process, his phone rang aloud and he said, "Uh oh! Phil Ivey's calling to call her bluff!" Nguyen tanked another minute or two, then called with the {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for top pair. Crawford held the {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} for an overpair.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and river the {Q-Hearts}. Both missed Nguyen, and he was eliminated at the hands of the chip-leading Crawford as she moved to 2.7 million in chips.

Leah Eliminated, Takes Lead in Horseshoe Hammond Casino Championship

Mike Leah - Casino Champion
Mike Leah - Casino Champion

Mike Leah was all in preflop holding {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, and Kevin Olsta had him at risk with {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. The board ran out {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, and Leah was eliminated.

Although he didn't win today, Leah is in the lead to lock up a seat in the Southern Comfort 100 Proof. World Series of Poker National Championship.

At each stop on the World Series of Poker Circuit tour, the player who accumulates the most points throughout the series is crowned the casino champion. Each casino champion earns a seat in the National Championship.

This year, the National Championship will take place at Harrah's New Orleans - the final stop on the tour. In 2012, the National Championship paid out 18 places, with the 18th-place finisher (Allen Kessler) earning $22,278. Ryan Eriquezzo, the winner, pocketed $416,051.

With a third, a fourth, and now a deep run in the Main Event, Leah has put himself in great position to grab a seat in New Orleans.
