The first Main Event of the the 2012-2013 World Series of Poker Circuit presented by Southern Comfort 100 Proof season kicks off today at the IP Casino Resort in Biloxi, Miss. The schedule has been expanded, a few tweaks have been made to the Circuit and all eyes are set on a seat in the National Championship taking place in May.
The $1,600 re-entry event will feature two flights today that will have a slight overlap in the schedule of play. Day 1a kicks off promptly at noon and the surviving players will play 12 levels before bagging and tagging for Day 2.
The second flight will begin at 5 p.m. CST while Day 1a will still be in play. Players that are unfortunate enough to bust in the later stages of Day 1a will still be able to play in Day 1b. Of course, they will also be able to start fresh on Day 2.
Last year's IP Champion Jerry Monroe will look to defend his title in the familiar setting. He trumped a final table that featured Circuit regulars "Wild" Bill Phillips, Jacob Naquin, Chris Parsons and Russel Ivy. Rex Clinkscales, Kenny Milam and Beverly Cheney also cashed in the event.
The National Championship will take place in late May this season at Harrah's New Orleans on the heels of the last Circuit event. Just days before the 2013 WSOP begins nine lucky players will have a serious boost to their bankroll, valuable TV time on ESPN and a head full of steam.
The format will remain the same for qualifiers as last year with all Circuit Main Event Champions, Casino Champions and the top WSOPC points qualifiers earning a seat in the event. The top 100 WSOP POY players will be able to buy in directly with a juice-free $10,000 entrance fee.
Tournament officials expect to pull about 200 players for the start of play today. Follow all the WSOPC action live right here on PokerNews.com.
