Cartwright Leads Final Six Players to Day 3

Level 25 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Kyle Cartwright takes a 1 million chip lead over Dolan to Day 3.
Kyle Cartwright takes a 1 million chip lead over Dolan to Day 3.

After a long day of action on Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Circuit presented by Southern Comfort 100 Proof has wrapped up. Just six players remain of the 90 that started the day. Kyle Cartwright leads the field with 2.232 million and has his eyes set on the Championship.

The field is rounded out with John Dolan (1.2 million), Dennis Pasentine (947,000), Brad Johnson (721,000), Cory Wood (590,000) and Jesus Cabrera (333,000).

It was a brutal day of big stacks colliding and river cards – both saving tournament lives and dashing championship aspirations. The eliminations came quickly with the pace never relenting.

Those that returned but did not make the money include Kurt Jewell, Aaron Massy, Jacob Bazeley, Ben Mintz, Justin Truesdell and Chris Parsons.

The money bubble was reached when Tyler Smith and Thanh Long split the min-cash when they both busted during round-for-round play. Players that cashed but fell short of the final table included Ryan Tepen, Robert Castoire, Micah Johnson, Dwyte Pilgrim, David Nicholson, Chip Ervin and Ryan Lenaghan.

Three-time WSOPC ring winner Pilgrim was eliminated by John Dolan after the dinner break. Pilgrim’s {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} failed to connect with the board and Dolan’s pocket queens handed Pilgrim his walking papers.

With just a dozen players remaining Charles Moore and Dolan were the two largest stacks at their table. They built a sizable pot by the turn with the board showing {5-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {5-Spades} {8-Diamonds}. Moore moved all in and Dolan called holding pocket kings. Moore held {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and was shocked when a river king fell on the river eliminating him from the tournament.

Rex Clinkscales and Cartwright got in a huge all in preflop confrontation. Both players looked like a lock for the final table with their stack sizes. Cartwright held {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and Clinkscales held pocket queens. The board ran {4-Spades} {6-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} and the river handed Cartwright a huge chip lead with 1.3 million.

After the two rivered kings the eliminated two of the larger stacks the ten remaining players moved to the feature table.

Friedlander was the first player to exit when he ran into Cabrera’s pocket kings. Shortly after, Kyle Cartwright and Patrick Eskandar got it all in on a flop of {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}. Eskandar held pocket aces and Cartwright held pocket nines. A jack on the turn filled Cartwright’s straight and Eskandar was eliminated.

The next elimination occurred when Shashy moved all in with {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} and Pasentine called with pocket sixes. Shashy didn’t connect with the board and was eliminated.

The last elimination of the night was something straight from a Hollywood movie. Tony Hatley opened, Cartwright three-bet, Cory Wood four-bet and Hatley five-bet shoved. Cartwright moved in over the top and Wood folded pocket queens face up. Cartwright held pocket aces and Hatley held pocket kings. The board ran {4-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} {2-Clubs} and Hatley was eliminated.

The six remaining players will return at noon sharp CST to play down to a winner. Follow all the WSOPC action live on PokerNews.com.

"You've Got Quads..."

Level 25 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Kyle Cartwright opened for 32,000, Dennis Pasentine called from the button and Jesus Cabrera called from the big blind. The flop came {3-Hearts} {10-Spades} {9-Hearts}, Cabrera checked, Cartwright bet 32,000 and Pasentine raised to 80,000.

Cabrera folded and Cartwright called. The turn came {3-Clubs} and both players checked. The river came {5-Spades}, Cartwright bet 84,000 and Pasentine raised to 284,000.

The large raise prompted Cartwright to take off his glasses and leaned back in his chair. "You've got quads..." Cartwright said.

After a few more moments Cartwright folded and Cory Wood looked at Pasentine and said "Show tens full."

Pasentine smiled, shook his head and said, "Better."

The table prompted him to show with the old "Good for the game" argument.

Pasentine showed pocket threes for quads and Cartwright nodded.
