Woodke Doubles Through Day 1a Chip Leader

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Kelly Cortum finished as the Day 1a chip leader 140,000.
Kelly Cortum finished as the Day 1a chip leader 140,000.

Drew Woodke got his last 29,600 all in preflop holding the {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and was a huge favorite over the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} of Kelly Cortum, who if you recall finish as the chip leader in the Day 1a flight with 140,000.

"Unbelievable," Woodke said when the {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop delivered Cortum a set. The rest of the table chimed in that Cortum had been running hot. The {7-Spades} turn was of no consequence, but the {10-Clubs} river was. Much to the shock and awe of the entire table, Woodke spiked his two-outter on the river and seemingly put a halt to Cortum's momentum.

Waite Not Waiting to Take Chips

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We found a large pot brewing at Table 35, where the cutoff had opened for 5,000, the button had three-bet to 10,000, and Brendan Waite made it 42,000 to go from the big blind. The cutoff called off for the rest of her stack, and button folded.

Waite: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Cutoff: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

The cutoff ran into immediate trouble on the {8-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Spades} flop. The {5-Spades} on the turn signaled that her Aces had been cracked, and a meaningless {J-Clubs} fell on the river.

Waite is among the chip leaders without 231,000.

Fink Wins Monster Off Battani

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Action folded to David Battani on the button and he opened for 6,000. The small blind folded and Mark Fink pushed back with a three-bet to 17,000 from the big. Not to be outdone, Battani four-bet to 36,000 and Fink five-bet shipped for 88,000 more. Battani tanked for several minute before making the call.

"Good call," a disappointed Fink said before tabling the {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}.

"Awww, damnit," Battani said before revealing the inferior {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Fink seemed shocked that he was ahead, but he wasn't about to complain. "Not a queen," Battani lamented when the {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop delivered one. After the {8-Clubs} turned, Battani was drawing dead. The meaningless {6-Clubs} was run out on the river for good measure, and Fink doubled big. Battani, who did not report his chip count last night, was knock down to 95,000.

Daniel Downs Irani

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Action folded to Zal Irani and he shipped for 29,000, which Mike Holm called from the button. Leonard Daniel then moved all in over the top for roughly 108,000 and Holm ended up folding what he said was pocket eights.

Daniel: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Irani: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

It was a flip, and Holm actually folded the best hand. With that said, the {a-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} flop hit Daniel hard with two pair. Irani called for a six, but his pleas were in vain as the {5-Hearts} turn and {Q-Hearts} river both blanked.

Vang Gets Back on Track

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

A player under the gun at Table 43 raised to 4,000 and the player to his immediate left three-bet to 9,000. The rest of the players at the table were far from deterred, as both Kou Vang in middle position and the player in the small blind cold-called. The original raiser called as well, and four players saw a flop of {J-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts} that was sure to bring action.

The small blind checked, the original raiser checked, and the three-bettor moved all in. Vang called off his 55,500, and the other players quickly folded. The early position player revealed his {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} but was in bad shape against Vang's {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. Rags fell on fourth and fifth streets, and Vang, who had lost around 25,000 chips in today's early levels, doubled through his opponent.

Cavanaugh's Bullets Mow Down Callers

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Casey Cavanaugh opened to 6,000 under the gun, and saw Blair Hinkle call in middle position, another player call in late position, and Grant Hinkle join the party from the small blind. The flop was a non-descript {3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, and Cavanaugh fired 18,000 into the field after Grant checked. Everyone folded, and Cavanaugh showed {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}.

Last Woman Standing

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Deborah Phillips
Deborah Phillips

The Ladies Event, which is taking place alongside the Main Event, attracted 30 lovely entrants and it seems that entire field is having a great time. With that said, just one woman remains in the Main Event, and she's on fire.

We didn't catch the action in a recent hand, but we do know that Phillips doubled her stack of 64,900 holding the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} on a {4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} board. A few hands later, she eliminated a player and continued to stack chips.
