No Repeat Champion

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Hakim Zoufri
Hakim Zoufri

Hakim Zoufri will not be the back-to-back champion in Rotterdam. The champion of last year's High Roller just busted out of the tournament after moving all in with {A-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. Raoul Refos called with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Zoufri needed to hit to stay alive.

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Spades}{A-Clubs}{K-Spades} and that meant that we will crown a new champion in this year's High Roller.

Alex van der Werf
Alex van der Werf

Alex van der Werf managed to get value against Bryan van Rijsbergen yesterday while he hit runner-runner quads. This time around it is Firoz Mangroe who hit runner-runner quads.

The board was reading {10-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and Van der Werf his bet was called by Mangroe. It went all in on the {Q-Diamonds} turn and Van der Werf needed to hold on to his lead with {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} against the {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds} of Mangroe.

Unfortunately for Van der Werf there was the case queen on the river. The {Q-Hearts} completed the board and Van der Werf was sent to the rail.

Other players that made it through to Day 2 include WSOPE bracelet winner Albert Hoekendijk (132,200), bracelet winner Ronald Keijzer (84,600), and Canadian double bracelet winner Mark Radoja (75,000).

Players that didn’t make it through to Day 2 include defending champion Hakim Zoufri, Tobias Peters, Luuk Gieles, and Marijn van Puffelen. Van Puffelen busted out of the tournament with only 30 minutes left on Day 1 to eventual chip leader Tjauw Foe with pocket eights against pocket aces.

Halfway through the fourth level of the day on Day 1, the first level with antes, the players all agreed on playing with a big blind ante instead of a running ante. The tournament staff listened to the players and after asking every player if they agreed with it they changed to structure of the tournament to be played out with a big blind ante.

The seat draw of the tournament will be available at the start of Day 2, as soon as the registration has closed. PokerNews will be at the tournament from start to finish until a winner is crowned and another WSOPC ring is awarded in Rotterdam.
