Tjauw Foe Bags Chip Lead on Day 1 of the €3,500 High Roller

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Clyde Tjauw Foe
Clyde Tjauw Foe

Clyde Tjauw Foe has bagged the chip lead in the 2018 WSOP International Circuit Holland Casino Rotterdam €3,500 High Roller. Tjauw Foe ended up with 168,000 out of his initial 50,000. Right behind him are Haci Bayram, with 161,100, and Michal Mrakes, with 137,500. There are 17 players left and registration is still open until the start of Day 2, at 1 p.m. local time.

The day started slowly with only 13 players in the tournament. That number had grown to 30 entries at the end of the first day. As level four of the tournament started, 100/200 with a running ante of 25, the players asked the tournament staff to alter the structure so they could play with a big blind ante. All the players in the tournament agreed and the tournament staff listened to the players and they altered the structure.

The tournament allowed for re-entries and plenty of players made use of that particular option. Tjauw Foe, Bayram, and Zhong Chen all bought in multiple times. Chen bought in for a total of three times but wasn’t able to end the day with chips. Other players that didn’t make it to Day 2 are Tobias Peters, Luuk Gieles, defending champion Hakim Zoufri, and Marijn van Puffelen.

Tjauw Foe ended up with the chip lead after winning multiple big pots. With about 30 minutes left in, the day Tjauw Foe sent Van Puffelen home. Van Puffelen opened the action with a raise, and he moved all in after Tjauw Foe had three-bet him. Van Puffelen was holding a pair of eights and ran into the pocket aces of Tjauw Foe. The board didn’t bring any help for Van Puffelen who was eliminated right before the end of Day 1.

Ronald Keijzer did make it through to Day 2. Keijzer had a great summer after he won a bracelet in Event #69: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The new bracelet winner is taking 84,600 to Day 2 of the High Roller. Keijzer isn’t the only WSOP bracelet winner left in the field. He is joined by double bracelet winner Mark Radoja (75,000) and WSOPE bracelet winner Albert Hoekendijk (132,200). Others that made it through to Day 2 of the €3,500 High Roller include Farid Chati (76,200), Alex van der Werf (72,900), and Kevin Paque (45,500).

Day 2 of the tournament will continue Tuesday, September 4, at 1 p.m. local time. Players are still able the register for the tournament before Day 2 starts and will get a stack of 50,000, worth 25 big blinds in the first level of the day, 1,000/2,000 with a 2,000 big blind ante.

PokerNews will be on site to report the action until a winner is crowned in Holland Casino Rotterdam.

Alex van der Werf raised from the under the gun position to 2,400 and it folded all the way around to big blind Mark Radoja. The Canadian player defended his big blind and they went heads-up to the flop.

The flop came down {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and both players checked in quick fashion.

The turn was the {5-Spades} and Radoja check-called a bet of 2,800 from Van der Werf.

The {6-Hearts} river completed the board and Radoja checked to Van der Werf for the third time. The Dutch player, who is a regular player in Holland Casino, bet 6,000 this time and saw Radoja raise the bet to 14,000. Van der Werf was reluctant to make the call but tossed a 10,000 chip in the middle to call.

Radoja opened up {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for runner-runner two pair and that was enough to take down the pot.

Zhong Chen raised from early position to 700 and it folded to small blind Wladimir Stepanian. He three-bet to 2,100, only to see Chen four-bet to 5,300. Stepanian called.

The flop was {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {A-Spades} and Stepanian checked again. Chen made a delayed continuation-bet of 4,200 and Stepanian called. The river was the {5-Diamonds} and Stepanian checked to Chen for the third and final time. Chen asked Stepanian how much he was playing and he moved his arm so Chen could see his stack. Chen fired out a big bet of 24,000 and Stepanian went into the tank. Stepanian ended up folding and Chen showed {9-}{9-}.

Chen flew directly from Barcelona to Rotterdam after a seventh-place finish in the €10,300 EPT High Roller last night, good for €136,700.

A new table was opened with the registration of Wladimir Stepanian and Farid Chati. Zhong Chen, Cees-Jan Vermeulen and Rene Kuhlman were all moved to the new table and Stepanian already took down a pot against Kuhlman.

It folded around to Stepanian in the small blind who raised to 450. Kuhlman called from the big blind and the flop came down {2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Stepanian checked on that flop, but Kuhlman fired out a bet this time as he put 425 in the middle. Stepanian called.

The turn was the {J-Clubs} and both players checked their option. Stepanian lead out on the {3-Clubs} river with a bet of 1,250 and that was enough to make Kuhlman fold and take down the pot.
