Cutler Doubles Up with Aces

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante

After arriving at the table, Derrick Cutler found himself all in and at risk for 11,900. Jesse Carter was his opponent on the other side of the table but Cutler was feeling confident with {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and Cutler's pair of aces held on for a double up as Carter's hand was in the muck before it was seen.

Farrar With Bottom Two

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante

On a board that read {8-Clubs}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Yoon Cheon went to the turn with his opponent Richard Farrar after calling a bet. The river came the {6-Diamonds} and both players checked after a couple moments. Farrar turned over {3-}{2-} for bottom two pair which was good enough to win and Cheon mucked his hand.

Vaitiekunas' First Bullet Doesn't Last Long

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante

Paulius Vaitiekunas just recently took his seat in the Main Event coming off a final table appearance in the Global Casino Championships. His quest for the Main Event got off to a rocky start as Vaitiekunas quickly saw his stack dwindle to around 10,000 chips.

Vaitiekunas got the last of his chips in the middle with {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and was up against the {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} of Simon Samokovski. The board ran out {q-}{j-}{10-}{j-}{5-} and Samokovski made trip jacks to eliminate Vaitiekunas.

Hoffman Flops the Stone-Cold Nuts

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

A board of {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} was laid out on the table with one player having all of his chips in the middle. Unfortunately for him, Justin Hoffman was his opponent and turned over a hand that was never going to be beaten.

Hoffman tabled {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a flopped straight flush while his opponent held {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. "I was trying to suck him in," Hoffman said about another player that folded on the turn. The insignificant {k-Diamonds} hit the river and Hoffman eliminated his opponent.

Yancey Sends Lowery to the Rail

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

A completed board of {a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades} was spread across the felt and three players were still in the hand. Daniel Lowery was all in for the main pot which had around 18,000 in the middle.

Edwin Yancey tossed in a bet of 6,300 into the side pot and his opponent made the call. Yancey showed {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a straight while his opponent held {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for just top pair. Lowery turned over {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} which was no good either before he walked away from the table.

The $1,700 Main Event is just one of a dozen gold ring events taking place at the Harrah’s Cherokee stop. For over a week, players have been competing for WSOP Circuit hardware and big chunks of prize money.

In Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold’em Double Stack, 813 runners took to the felt and created a $268,290 prize pool.

In the end it was Eric Salazar coming out on top to capture a $48,618 first-place prize and his third gold ring.

“I don’t know, it just feels really good,” Salazar told WSOP officials after the win. “I had a bad summer in Vegas, so this definitely helps,” he explained excitedly, and continued “I am extremely excited about the rest of the trip.”

Tran Buffudles Nahum

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

Action was at the river with the board reading {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Roger Nahum was facing a 14,000 bet from Chi Tran into a pot of about 30,000.

Nahum was deep in the tank, already having thought it over for a while as the action was picked up. He continued to think it out and began to talk aloud.

"This would be some kind of crazy bluff, but how could you be bluffing here?" Tran started to laugh a bit and cover his face. Nahum asked Tran why he was laughing and jokingly requested that he remove his hands from his face so he could see him.

"I know you are capable of some crazy ****" Nahum said to Tran while shuffling his cards under his hands. He still appeared to be torn over the decision but eventually he decided to fold his hand and Tran slid his cards into the middle without showing as he collected the pot.
