Alcorn Uses Big Raise

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 120,000 ante

On the river the board read {2-Spades}{j-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. The first player to act made a small min bet of 12,000 to which Thomas Alcorn made a huge raise to 100,000. His opponent thought for a while before making the call. Alcorn showed the {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and gathered the nice boon to his stack via the raise.

James Garst came into the day with just eight big blinds and was saying on the break, "I don't know how I'm still in".

He's managed to outlast some of the chip leaders from the start of the day and just found some new life again.

Garst was all in for 124,000 in early position and Dann Turner had plenty of calling chips from the big blind. Garst tabled {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} which was slightly ahead of Turner's {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. The board ran out {q-}{9-}{8-}{5-}{k-} and Garst's ace-high held on for the double up.

"I appreciate it," Garst said as he collected the pot.

"Sir, I was trying to knock you out," Turner responded.

Action was on the turn as the board read {3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Scott Drobes bet a small amount of 50,000 into a pot that was quite a bit larger. Forrest Raleigh considered his options and thought for about fifteen seconds before electing to call.

Drobes showed the {q-Spades}{9-Spades} while Raleigh turned over the winner with the {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flush to take the pot as the two players started to discuss the hand, the nature of the bet at the end and the ultimate decision to just call.

Lamkin on the Rise

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

After a couple of preflop raises, Joseph Lamkin and his opponent got all of their chips in the middle. Lamkin turned over {a-Hearts}{j-Spades} and was up against the {j-}{j-} of his opponent who was at risk for just under 300,000.

The flop came {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades} to give Lamkin the lead with a pair of aces. He stood up from his chair and clapped his hands when the board ran out {7-Clubs} and {k-Diamonds} as he held on to eliminate his opponent.
