Larose Finds Three-Bet Success

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

A player raised to 300 from the hijack, and was called by the cutoff, as well as Wayne Whittinghill in the small blind. John Larose three-bet to 1,600 from the big blind, and the hijack and cutoff both called, while Whittinghill ducked out of the way.

On the {q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop, Larose led out for 2,500, and both of his opponents quickly folded. The dealer inadvertently flipped one of Larose's cards as he went to muck, and the {a-Clubs} flipped up on the felt. Larose didn't react to his exposed card, and simply raked in the pot.

Jason Terry
Jason Terry

Martin Ryan raised to 400 from the cutoff, and was called by Jason Terry on the button, as well as the small blind and Deborah Lavigne in the big blind.

Action checked to Ryan on the {5-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop, and he bet 1,700. Terry raised to 4,200, and action folded back to Ryan, who called.

Ryan checked the {6-Diamonds} turn, and Terry gathered up his remaining 24,200 in chips into a single tower and slid them in the pot. Ryan quickly folded.

Cole Goes Runner-Runner

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

A player raised to 300 from early position, and Robert Cole called in the hijack. The small blind three-bet to 1,800, and both the early position player and Cole called.

Action checked to the river of a {9-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} board, and after action checked to Cole, he bet 2,000. Only the small blind called, and Cole tabled {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a flush. His opponent mucked.

Alan Cutler checked a {7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop from the small blind, and his opponent on the button bet 400 into a pot of 1,000. Cutler called.

Cutler checked again on the {a-Spades} turn, and the button bet 800. Cutler quickly called.

Both players checked the {a-Hearts} river, and Cutler tabled {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for running trip aces. The button smirked as he looked over his own cards, then mucked.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana in the Louisville area to live report the $1,700 Main Event; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

In Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold’em, 192 runners created a $63,360 prize pool that was paid out to the top 29 players including Mark Beard (13th - $890), Kevin Davis (20th = $682), and Mark “Pegasus” Smith (27th - $582), just to name a few.

In the end, 30-year-old William Watson of Lexington, Kentucky bested John Hatfield in heads-up play to win the title and $15,776 first-place prize. It also marked his third career gold ring.

The win gave him the early lead in the race for Casino Champion, which he planned to pursue.

“I am going to play everything,” Watson explained, “I am a normal Circuit grinder.”

Terry Finds a Flush

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Martin Ryan raised to 400 from the cutoff, and Jason Terry three-bet to 1,100 from the button. The big blind called, as did Ryan.

Action checked to Terry on a {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{a-Spades} flop, and he bet 1,500. Both of his opponents called.

The {4-Spades} turn was checked through to the {4-Clubs} river, and action checked to Terry again. He bet 2,000, and the big blind quickly called, while Ryan folded. Terry tabled {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for a rivered flush, and the big blind mucked.
