Ricky Doyle Becomes WSOP Circuit Gold Ring Winner with Event #3 Victory

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana in the Louisville area to live report the $1,700 Main Event; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #3: $250 Double Stack No-Limit Hold’em attracted 485 entries and offered up a $97,000 prize pool.

Coming out on top was 56-year-old Ricky Doyle from Cynthiana, Kentucky, who earned $19,447 for the victory and captured his first gold ring. It took him 18 hours to clinch victory in the one-day tournament.

"I was a little tired but I was just lucky as hell," Doyle said. "I was catching and hitting a lot at the final table."

The win has inspired Doyle to play a bit more, which might include the $1,700 Main Event.

"I just might play the big one now,” he said with a smile.

Jerod Smith
Jerod Smith

Two-time WSOPC ring winner Justin Harvell had 3,300 in front of him from middle position, and was contemplating an all in bet from WSOPC Ameristar St. Charles Casino Champ Jerod Smith on the button for 9,200. Harvell didn't look thrilled, but put in calling chips after a short stint in the tank.

"Slowroll!" Smith said with a grin before tabling his hand.

Jerod Smith: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Justin Harvell: {k-Spades}{4-Clubs}

"Yes! That's what I wanted!" Harvell said with a laugh upon seeing his hand was live.

The {9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop and {8-Diamonds} turn brought to help for either player, and the {q-Spades} river secured the double for Smith.

Ryan Van Sanford: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Van Sanford's Big Slick held on the {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop, and the {k-Spades} turn secured the knockout for Van Sanford before the {a-Hearts} could fall on the river.

The full {10-Spades}{q-Spades}{a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} board was already on the felt when the big blind checked over to Byron Hubert, who bet 4,000 from under the gun.

The big blind went into the tank for a minute, looking over the 9,000 in the pot, and at one point stacked up all of his big denomination chips, looking down as he did. He eventually plucked four yellow 1,000 chips out of the stack and called, only to quickly mucka fter Hubert tabled {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

Hyman Only Plays Tens

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

Jared Hyman raised to 900 from under the gun, and was called by a player in middle position, as well as the big blind.

The big blind checked the {7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop to Hyman, who bet 1,500. Both the middle position player and big blind called.

On the {10-Diamonds} turn, the big blind checked, and Hyman bet 3,000. Only the big blind called.

The {7-Clubs} completed the board on the river, and the big blind check-called a bet of 5,500 from Hyman. Hyman rolled over {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} for tens-full, and his opponent mucked.

"Tens have been good to you!" a tablemate told Hyman, who responded with, "Can't complain...I've only played two hands, and both of 'em were 10's!"

Robert James checked an {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{a-Hearts} board from the small blind, and Yoon Kim checked from under the gun. The cutoff bet 2,100 into a pot of around 6,000, and James check-raised to 5,100. Kim and the cutoff both called.

The {6-Hearts} hit the river, and James checked. Kim bet 5,000, the cutoff called and James folded.

"Where's the f***ing club at?" Kim said as he tabled {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for aces-full. The cutoff tabled {a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for the same full house, and the duo chopped up the pot.
