Dawley Up, Stammen and Geary Out

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Jessica Dawley was all smiles after her {a-Hearts}{10-Spades} ended up with Broadway on a {j-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{k-Hearts} board after she jammed all in for 30,500 from under the gun and found a caller in the big blind.

On the other end of the spectrum, both Justin Geary and Keven Stammen were seen exiting the tournament area, and their former tournament seats are vacated.

Snodgrass's Jacks Can't Beat Queen-Jack

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Nicole Miller checked a {3-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} board from the big blind, and Josh Snodgrass bet 5,000 into a pot of 20,000 from under the gun. Miller called.

The same action repeated itself on the {4-Hearts} river, with Miller check-calling a bet of 5,000 from Snodgrass. After Snodgrass tabled {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, Miller turned over her {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} for the winner.

Esquivel Felled By Gallaher

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

"I'm glad you weren't here," John Gallaher told the PokerNews reporting team on a recent trip through the tournament floor, and he glanced over at the seat formerly occupied by Michael Esquivel.

Gallaher pantomimed the chips of Esquivel going into his stack, and someone at the table quipped, "He must really like eight-six," in reference to Esquivel.

Gray Cracks McBrayer's Aces

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Robert Gray raised to 6,000 from middle position, and BJ McBrayer three-bet to 14,000 next to act. Action folded back to Gray, who called.

Gray open-shoved for 44,000 on the {9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop, and McBrayer called.

Robert Gray: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
BJ McBrayer: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

McBrayer's aces were firmly in command, until the {q-Hearts} fell on the turn, giving Gray trip queens and leaving McBrayer with just a single out to survive. After the {2-Hearts} hit the river, Gray stood up and told McBrayer, "Good luck," unaware that he had actually hit trips. Once he realized he actually had the winner, he apologized and took back his seat, raking in the double.

Phan Felts a Shorty

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

A player in the cutoff jammed for 13,500, and action folded to Donnie Phan in the big blind. He looked over his own stack for a moment, then elected to call.

Opponent: {q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Donnie Phan: {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Phan spiked a pair on the {8-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{9-Spades} flop, and his opponent was unable to catch up on the {4-Spades} turn and {k-Diamonds} river to ship Phan the pot and the KO.

Toler Gets Lucky to Crack Kings

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

A preflop raising war saw a player in the small blind get his last 82,000 chips in the middle, and Merton Toler called in early position, having his opponent covered by just 13,000 in chips.

Opponent: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Merton Toler: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Toler had to wait until the river of a {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{a-Spades} runout to find his ace, and the small blind took the beat in stride, snapping a photo of the board then shaking hands with players at the table before making his exit.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana in the Louisville area to live report the $1,700 Main Event; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #9: $400 No-Limit Hold’em attracted 123 entries and offered up a $40,590 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 19 players including Merton Toler (10th - $779), Nickolas Syrigos (14th - $673), Scott Weiss (16th - $601), and Kathalyn Holz (19th - $553).

Poker grinder Tim Garles from Des Moines, Iowa began day 2 as the chip leader and stayed there on his way to victory.

“I have been working really hard, my coach is Jeff Fielder,” Garles said after his win. “I definitely have to thank him.”

He added: “I am just going to keep playing tournaments.”
