Good Luck Goes Bad For Gallaher

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

John Gallaher found himself $500 richer after winning a nightly drawing in the casino, and by the time he came back, his table had broke and he made it just in time for his big blind. As Gallaher recounted to us, however, he wishes he just paid the 2,000 for missing the big blind instead of getting this hand.

A player limped in from early position, and a middle position player raised to 10,000, announcing, "Let's play some poker!" as he did. Gallaher three-bet shoved for 72,000 in the big blind, and action folded back to the middle position player, who called off for 37,000 total.

Opponent: {10-}{9-}
John Gallaher: {a-}{a-}

Gallaher's opponent gambled with the ten-nine, but was shocked to see Gallaher wake up with aces on his first hand at the table. The flop contained a ten for Gallaher's opponent, and although the {2-} turn was a blank, the {10-} river gave Gallaher's opponent trips, and left Gallaher down a chunk of his stack in his first hand at the new table.

Williams Wins a Flip Against Jewell

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Steven Williams limped in from middle position, as did Donnie Phan in the hijack. Kurt Jewell raised to 6,800 on the button, and Williams responded with a three-bet shove for 14,300. Phan folded and Jewell called.

Steven Williams: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Kurt Jewell: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Williams held up on a {5-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts} board to win the flip and double through Jewell.

Gallaher Finds a Double Before Dinner

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

John Gallaher stopped and told us about a hand just before dinner break that helped him double up just after re-entering the tournament. In the hand, the small blind raised to 2,600, and John Gallaher called in the big blind.

On the {q-}{8-}{5-} flop, the small blind bet 3,000, and Gallaher called.

The {5-Clubs} fell on the turn, and the small blind bet 7,000. Gallaher called again.

The {8-Diamonds} hit the river, and the small blind checked. Gallaher jammed for 18,000, and the small blind tank-called with {a-Spades}{4-Spades} for eights and fives with an ace. Gallaher had that beat with his {a-}{q-}, however, and he doubled up.

Pupillo Over a Quarter-Million

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante

Nick Pupillo raised to 2,000 from the hijack, and he found a lone caller in the player in the cutoff.

Pupillo bet 3,000 on the {3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop, and the cutoff called.

The {k-Diamonds} fell on the turn, and Pupillo bet 7,000. The cutoff tabled {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and folded, saying, "Maybe if it was a heart?" Pupillo now commands a stack of over a quarter-million just before the start of the dinner break.
