Lawrence Ma started the action with a raise to 600 from middle position, two players called and the small blind three-bet to 3,500. Ma and one other player called.

The flop came {2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and the preflop aggressor put out a continuation bet of 3,700. Ma called and the next player moved all in for 23,700. The player in the small blind quickly folded and Ma gave it some thought before putting in the chips to call.

Ma was in the lead but would have to fade eight outs. The {3-Spades} and {q-Clubs} completed the board and Ma busted his opponent out of the tournament early on Day 1b.

PokerNews is in town to live report both the Main Event and High Roller here at the World Series of Poker Circuit Bicycle Casino, but those are just two of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

One of those tournaments was Event #5: $400 NLH Monster Stack (Quantum), which drew 815 entries and offered up a $325,050 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 99 players including Andrew Moreno (3rd - $28,195), Dylan Wilkerson (4th - $21,095), Ryan Lenaghan (9th - $5,955), Ping Liu (11th - $4,795), Sam Cosby (27th - $1,930), Mohsin Charania (35th - $1,275), and Andrew Ostapchenko (41st - $1,135).

Coming out on top after beating Artashes Kartalyan in heads-up play was Javid Javani, a 61-year-old retired teacher who won $61,795 and his first gold ring.

“It’s nice to get my first ring,” said Javani who has cashes dating back to the 2008 WSOP in Las Vegas. “I play a lot of poker but I just retired so I’m going to playing a little bit more.”

He added: “Last night I was very tired, but I played a pretty solid game all the way, the first and the second round. I played the right cards; folded the right cards; folded ace-queen three times yesterday.”
