Keogan Cracks Kaleel's Kings; Doubles

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

Patrick Keogan raised in the hijack to 500 and Dave Kaleel re-raised from the small blind to 1,500, after the big blind folded Keogan made the call.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and Kaleel continued for 2,200 which Keogan wasted no time calling. The {4-Diamonds} landed on the turn and after eying up Keogan's stack Kaleel fired out two 5,000 chips for a bet of 10,000. Keogan snap-called his remaining 7,400 and both hands were tabled.

Dave Kaleel: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Patrick Keogan: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Keogan had flopped top set agianst Kaleel's overpair and dodged the two outs when the {5-Hearts} landed on the river, giving him a double.

David Larson Captures 5th Gold Ring in Kickoff Event

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
David Larson

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Hammond to live report both the $1,700 Main Event and $2,200 High Roller; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

The stop kicked off with Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold’em, which attracted 1,701 entries over five starting flights and created a $561,330 prize pool.

Coming out on top was 49-year-old David Larson, who captured a $76,589 first-place prize and his fifth career gold ring.

“There were so many people in this tournament,” explained Larson, “I was lucky enough to through to the last three tables let alone the final table.”

He added: “Anytime you have this many people in one field and you make it to the final table, there aren’t any weak players, they are all really good … You not only have to stay focused but also get lucky while playing your best game.”

The heads-up battle between Stephen Seim and Larson would see Seim hold the chip advantage but that only lasted one-hand after Larson flopped the flush with Seim holding a set of ducks. The board didn’t pair for Seim and the heads-up battle wouldn’t last longer than ten minutes after the first hand.

“This is so amazing,” Larson exclaimed after his victory, “It was a long day and I’m exhausted.”

Double Knock Out for Kaleel

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

A player in middle position opened to 600, Dave Kaleel called in the hijack and the action folded to the small blind who moved all-in for roughly 5,000. The big blind folded and the middle position player moved all-in for roughly 13,000 and Kaleel quickly called.

Small blind: {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Middle Position: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Dave Kaleel: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Kaleel's jacks were in tremendous shape although the flop of {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades} now gave his opponents more outs as he would lose to any five, six or ace but the board completed with the {2-Spades} on the turn and the {9-Diamonds} on the river. Kaleel's jacks held and he eliminated both opponents while adding his stack.

Lake Rips All-In

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

The action began with the player in early position raising to 800 and only Steve Lake came along from the cutoff.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and the early position raiser bet out 1,200 and Lake quickly moved all-in for roughly 28,000. His opponent thought it over before mucking the {a-Clubs} face up. Lake said, "No good." as he slid his cards into the muck.
