Two Doubles

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Rodney Clanton got his last 45,000 in preflop over an open from Zack Mullennix. Mullennix called, saying he had low suited cards, and he showed down {6-Spades}{5-Spades} when the time came. Clanton had {a-Spades}{j-Spades} and held up on a board of {q-}{7-}{9-}{q-}{k-}.

At another table, Maurice Hawkins shoved all in on the turn from early position. The board read {8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and John Hughes called from the cutoff for about 60,000.

Hawkins: {9-}{9-}
Hughes: {q-}{q-}

Hughes was in great shape to double and a {3-Hearts} river was good by him.

The bubble rolls on.

Sturges Survives

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Mary Sturges got a double with {10-Spades}{9-Spades} but must have lost another pot as she was back down to 21,000. Those chips went into the middle and the big blind called with {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Sturges had {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and won the race as the board came {5-Clubs}{a-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

McCormick Wins Battle of Leaders

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

On a completed board of {5-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Austin McCormick bet 199,000, the size of the pot, from the big blind. Brett Apter thought a bit and then exchanged some banter with his opponent.

"I have a nine," he said with a smile.

"He has a blocker!" someone said with a laugh.

Finally, he mucked the {9-Clubs} face up and conceded the pot.

Carlton Doubles Through Ditrapani

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Don Carlton checked in the big blind on {k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Nic Ditrapani bet 21,000. Carlton shoved for 80,000 and Ditrapani thought about 30 seconds and called with {a-Spades}{8-Spades}. Carlton was also drawing but had a leading pair to go with it: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. The {q-Clubs} river was a brick and Ditrapani sent a double.

Welcome to Day 2 of WSOPC Ameristar St. Charles $1,700 Main Event

Austin McCormick
Austin McCormick

After two starting flights, it's time for Day 2 of WSOPC Ameristar St. Charles $1,700 Main Event.

A total of 281 entries were logged and 46 of those have punched Day 2 tickets. Just three of those will go home empty-handed, so expect an early bubble here at Ameristar.

Austin McCormick is the player who needs to worry least about that as the Day 1a boss comes in with the biggest stack. He'll be trailed by notables such as Brett Apter, Maurice Hawkins, Jon Lawson, Tim Vance, Michael Hudson and Ravi Raghavan.

Play resumes at noon local time with blinds and antes at 2,000/4,000/4,000. There will be just over 49 minutes left in the level when cards begin to fly. That 49 minutes will be added to the normal 10 levels of play, so a long Day 2 is in order. Stay tuned to PokerNews for all of the live updates as the field is whittled way down.
