Harvey Puzzles Apter

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

In a four-way limped pot with the flop reading {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, James Harvey led out for 2,000 from the small blind. Brett Apter was the only player to call from the button.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} and Harvey tossed in another bet of 3,000. Apter still called and the {3-Clubs} landed on the river. Harvey sized up a much larger bet this by throwing in 10,000 chips. Apter looked confused for a bit and he dipped into the tank for over two minutes. He eventually folded and Harvey showed him {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} which Apter confirmed was the best hand.

Lambert Lays One Down

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

In a three-bet pot with a little over 10,000 in the middle, the dealer fanned the flop of {j-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. Marcus Lambert checked from the small blind and his opponent tossed in a bet of 5,000 in early position. Lambert called and the {a-Spades} landed on the turn.

Lambert check-called another bet of 12,000 from his opponent and the {6-Clubs} completed the board. Lambert checked for the third time and his opponent put together a bet of 18,000. Lambert thought for a minute but decided to lay his hand down.

PokerNews is in town to live report the $1,700 Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit at Horseshoe Tunica, but that is just one of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

Event #3: $400 No-Limit Hold’em attracted 1,005 entries over three flights, which resulted in a $331,650 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 149 players and among those to go deep were Craig Welko (4th - $18,106), Byron Tipton (20th - $2,468), Jeff Whittinghill (33rd - $1,513), and Eddie Shade (47th - $1,232).

In the end, Arkansas’s Michael Lech bested Jeff Burns in heads-up play to win the title for $53,320 and his eighth career gold ring (five of which have come in different countries).

“It’s the first one of the decade, so, let’s go! It’s a good start, I’m happy to be here. I’m going on a vacation next weekend to take my mom to Mexico for her birthday, so I paid for it,” Lech said after his victory.

The 29-year-old continued: “I ran pretty good from start to finish. I started the final table second in chips, then got down to last in chips on dinner break. I only had seven big blinds, but then the other guy started throwing chips in for no reason, and I ended up having almost all the chips.”

The action folded around to Darren Martin who raised it up on the button. Scott Stewart called from the big blind and they went heads-up to a flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Stewart checked to Martin who tossed in a bet of 2,000. Stewart check-raised to 5,500 and Martin called.

The turn brought the {2-Hearts} and Stewart fired out another bet of 7,000. Martin still called and the {9-Diamonds} hit the river. Stewart sized up a third barrel of 14,000 this time which put Martin in the tank for a minute before making the call. Stewart rolled over {k-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for a rivered straight and was awarded the pot.

Sinclair Flops a Set to Double Through Greer

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante

There was a raise to 1,600 from middle position and Richard Sinclair called on the button. Jesse Greer also came along from the big blind and the flop fell {9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}. The action checked to Sinclair who bet 1,600 and was called by both opponents.

The turn brought the {7-Clubs} which stirred up even more action as both Sinclair and Greer quickly got all of their chips in the middle. Sinclair flipped over {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for a set of threes while Greer was drawing slim after turning two pair with {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

The {2-Diamonds} completed the board and Sinclair held on for a full double up through the table's chipleader Greer.

Izadi Flushes Gallaher for a Double Up

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante

John Gallaher opened to 1,400 from under the gun and was called by Hamid Izadi in the small blind along with the big blind. The flop fell {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts} and the action checked to Gallaher who continued for 2,400. Izadi check-raised to 6,500 which got the big blind to fold but Gallaher shipped all in. Izadi called off his stack of an extra 10,000 chips and the cards were tabled.

Hamid Izadi: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
John Gallaher: {a-}{j-}

Gallaher flopped two pair but Izadi still had life with a pair and a flush draw. The {10-Spades} on the turn gave Izadi the flush he was looking for and the {5-Diamonds} on the river could not save Gallaher.
