PokerNews is in town to report the $1,700 Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit at Milwaukee’s Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, but that is just one of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

The stop kicked off with Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold’em, a tournament that attracted 313 runners and offered up a $103,290 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 47 players including Cody Brinn (4th - $7,299), Bryan Skreens (7th - $3,133), Andy Rogowski (12th - $1,586), PokerNews’ Chad Holloway (24th - $840), Ken Baime (29th - $693), and David “The Maven” Gutfreund (35th - $623).

In the end, Darin Utley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa bested Canada’s Li Ding in heads-up play to win the title for $22,642 and his second ring. His first came a year before in January 2019 when he won the WSOPC Choctaw Durant Event #3: $400 NLH Multi-Flight for $50,557.

Utley, 49, is a former amateur boxer with eight golden glove titles on his résumé.

"I started [boxing] when I was eight years old and I did it for like 20 years or so; but I just got inducted into the Iowa Boxing Hall of Fame this summer,” Utley revealed. “I think you see a lot of ex-athletes that play poker because you’re used to being competitive your whole life.”

A player raised to 300 from middle position, and the hijack three-bet to 800. Igor Hot four-bet to 1,800 on the button, and only the hijack called.

The hijack check-called a bet of 1,000 from Hot on the {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, and the {5-Diamonds} fell on the turn. The hijack led out for 2,000, and Hot called.

On the {j-Clubs} river, the hijack check-called a bet of 3,000 from Hot, only to muck after Hot tabled {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

Roland Israelashvili raised to 400 from middle position, and was called by both players in the blinds.

The blinds checked to Israelashvili on a {3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop, and he bet 900. Both blinds called.

On the {a-Spades} turn, the blinds checked again to Israelashvili, who announced a bet with a 5k chip, but both blinds quickly folded.

Israelashvili tabled {7-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and said, "Can I get a table change?" with a grin.

He added, "I had no idea that was going to go so good!"

PokerNews is in town to report the $1,700 Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit at Milwaukee’s Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, but that is just one of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #2: $400 Pot-Limit Omaha, 164 runners created a $54,120 prize pool that was paid out amongst the top 25 players, including Chris Roth (5th - $3,089), Alexander Hill (8th - $1,411), Dan Bekavac (10th - $958), Kirby Rogers (17th - $730), Gary Herstein (23rd - $628), and Nick Pupillo (24th - $628).

In the end, Kyle Klett defeated former WSOPC Potawatomi Casino Champ Byron Ziebell in heads-up play to win the title for $13,723 and his first gold ring a year after finishing runner-up in a tournament at the WSOPC Potawatomi stop.

“I didn’t want to get it all in with the short stacks, I wanted to bleed them,” said Klett, a 27-year-old broker. “I feels really good. Last year when I got second it stung a lot and the outcome of this event just feels a lot better … I just want to shoutout to my rail, Monkey and Bruger for taking a half-day to come watch me play.”
