El Hachem Eliminates Baltazar

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

We were saying how the beginning of a tournament tends to a bit humdrum, well tell that to Idoulahiane El Hachem.

Four players including Baltazar and El Hachem, who were in the small and big blind respectively, saw a flop of {K-Clubs}{4-Spades}{Q-Spades} and then the sparks started to fly. Baltazar checked to El Hachem whose bet of 1600 was raised by the pre-flop raiser to 3600. The button folded and Baltazar called before El Hachem 3-bet to 9600. He got called again by the pre-flop raiser and then Baltazar shoved for roughly 23,000 chips.

El Hachem was in a decision stuck between Baltazar and the player left to act behind him. Eventually he called and was relieved to see his opponent fold. The hands were turned on their backs.

Baltazar: {J-Spades}{8-Spades}
El Hachem: {K-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

El Hachem had flopped best but he knew that any spade would leave him with four outs to win the hand. The board completed {6-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and Baltazar was eliminated. There is of course still time to reenter, so we will have to wait and see if she returns to the tables

Tsunamy Making Waves Early on Day 1a

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante

When we got to the table Javier Tsunamy was raking in a pot which was good enough for a full double up. We missed the action but according to table-mate Guy Taylor it was certainly a "weird one".

Tsunamy had raised preflop and called a 3-bet from his opponent Belhemel Dja Daouadji, before leading a flop of {8-}{5-}{2-} and calling a subsequent raise. When the turn brought a {Q-} Tsunamy check-shoved for roughly 13,000 more and got called. His opponent showed pocket jacks but Tsunamy was best with {K-}{K-}, the river bricked leaving Tsunamy with a nice stack to go on with, and leaving Dja Daouadji with below starting stack

Boatman Takes his Opponent for Three Streets

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante

As soon as we approached Barny Boatman's table, he just had to get this hand in the live blog.

According to him he check-called three streets against his opponent holding {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} on {K-}{9-}{2-}{2-}{J-}, which lead to his opponent throwing his hand away after Boatman called on the river. Boatman is up well over double starting stack for the day

Taylor's "Tight" Image Pays Off

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

"Are they all saying that I'm tight?" enquired Guy Taylor as he scooped a pot. The beauty of this tournament is that there are an awful lot of language going about. French and English are being spoken by most tournament staff, dealers included, but there are conversations going on al over the place in Arabic and Spanish, as well as many other languages.

In this pot Taylor saw a flop of {4-Spades}{J-Hearts}{3-Spades} with four others. His opponent bet and he called, and the {2-Hearts} was dealt. Again, Taylor's opponent bet and the Brit from Peterborough called. The river was the {4-Clubs} and this time his opponent checked, with Taylor then betting 12,000 into 16,000 and got a call. Taylor slammed down {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, which won him the pot and started the debates.

"How can I be tight if I played {7-}{3-} early and showed it down? {7-}{3-} is a premium is it?" One gets the impression that the argument will go on for a while longer

Montes Eliminates Dja Daouadji

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

In the last hand before the 15 minute break Gerard Montes did enough to eliminate Belmehel Dja Daouadji. On a board of {3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} Dja Daouadji shoved for his remaining chips and Montes quickly called.

Dja Daouadji: {7-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Montes: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

The {J-Clubs} on the river appeared at first glance to be exactly the card Dja Daouadji needed, but it also gave Montes a higher straight, meaning the Frenchman was eliminated
