Slow and Steady

Play has slowed down since the rebuy period is over. Time to pick your hands carefully. No more crazy all-in, I can rebuy, plays. Some players that were in the Heads Up tournament are just now sitting down.

Dig Deep

We're on break and the players are making their final rebuys and add-ons. Players who are completely bust can do a double-rebuy AND take two add-ons, bringing their stacks back to 12,000. Which may help you understand why we haven't been able to closely follow the chip counts.

But once we're back from break and the players have to endure with only the chips in front of them, we'll be out there gathering chip counts.

Mike Sexton Doubles Up

After seeing a flop of K-K-3 Mike Sexton moved all-in and his opponent called. Sexton had A-K-Q-8 to outkick his opponent's K-Q-J-2. When a Jack hit on the turn it gave his opponent a full house...but the river brought an Ace that gave Sexton a bigger full house and the 16,000 pot.

Chip Counts

They say that the tournament really begins when the rebuy period ends, and that happens in 11 minutes. We'll go through the field and find out who the chip leaders are, but one player who's already amassed a big stack is Johnny Chan, who currently sits with 34,500.

Another Double Rebuy for Phil Ivey

Before the flop Gavin Smith moved in for the last of his chips, and then Phil Ivey and another player moved in after they saw a {7-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop. Ivey flopped two pair with {J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, the other player flopped a variety of straight draws with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, and Smith had a flush draw with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.

The {8-Spades} on the turn gave Ivey's and Smith's opponent a straight but the {2-Hearts} gave Smith the flush and the main pot. Ivey's opponent took the side pot, and Phil was left to take a double rebuy.
