"Alaska Reinforcements" -- Wayne McGregor Only One Left

Mike Forman pushed all-in for 4,200 and one player called. Forman had A-Q and his opponent turned over pocket jacks. The board was no help, and Forman was eliminated. Wayne McGregor is the last one standing (or should I say sitting). He has about 13,500 in chips. Looks like they will have to come back anyway since David Williams wasn't in the event today. Either way, they all said they are having a great time.

Supper Time

Play slowed down in the twenty or so minutes before the dinner break, and now the players have 90 minutes to grab a bite and fortify themselves before we resume at 9 p.m. PDT. There are still 12 tables out in the Pavilion and it was just announced those players will be moved inside during the break.

Off And Running

The players are all seated and cards are in the air. There are 420 players left in the field and the top 270 spots pay. We'll be playing until 2 a.m. PDT tonight.

Coming From Behind To . . . Lose

Is there any sadder situation in poker than when you get crazy lucky and suck out on someone . . . and then they re-suck out? An example:

Flaminio Malanuti has A-J. He doesn't know it but he's up against pocket Kings. The flop comes 10-K-Q. All the money goes in, big big pot, and Malanuti shows that he flopped Broadway . . . and now he has to gut out the last two cards and hope they don't pair the board.

Turn is a 3. Good . . .
River is a Queen.

And Malanuti's stack is halved to 20,000.

Clonie Gowan Makes the Call

After Clonie Gowan raised to 2,000 the player in the big blind called. The flop came {J-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{4-Hearts} and the big blind pushed for 6,550. Gowan said, "It's not an easy call, believe me," before she put her chips in the pot. The big blind could only offer {K-Spades}{9-Spades} while Gowan had {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Her pair of Aces held up and that pot brought her stack up to 55,000.

Antonio Esfandiari Survives

When the player to his left raised to 2,500, Antonio Esfandiari moved in the last of his chips. The other player called and showed {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} to Esfandiari's {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. After the first four cards completely missed him Antonio was dead to an Ace. And then, on the river, he spiked the {A-Clubs} to stay alive.
