Jeff Madsen Uses His "Rebuy" Chip Early

The player under the gun limped and a middle position player raised to 500. Jeff Madsen, one seat off the cutoff, re-raised to 1300. Both players called and the three saw a flop of {7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Action checked to Madsen who moved all in for his remaining 2,450 and got one caller. The players showed.

Madsen: A-A-T-4
Opponent: Q-7-6-4

Madsen's opponent had outflopped him and his aces were behind. The turn came the {2-Hearts} and the river {7-Clubs} only helped his opponent. Madsen lost his first 10,000 early and is now working with his last 10,000 chips.

Alan Smurfit, Winner WSOP $1500 Pot Limit Omaha w/Rebuys Event #33
Alan Smurfit, winner of the $1500 Pot Limit Omaha with rebuys, has an usual card protector. He is using the WSOP bracelet he won in that event. Just in case there are any doubts about his ability to play this game.

Bruno Fitoussi, Runner-up in 50k HORSE
Bruno Fitoussi, runner up in the 50k HORSE event has started well, winning the first pot he entered with a bet on the turn. He picked up 4,000 and has moved to 14,000.

Johan Bergquist Quadruples, Aided by Quads

On the very first hand, Johan Bergquist doubled up by going all in with a flush draw and hitting. On the second hand, Bergquist limped under the gun. Another player made it 350 to go, and the button re-raised it to 1200, which was called by the two players. On the flop of {7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts}, Bergquist bet out 2500 and both players called. On the turn of {4-Spades}, Bergquist pushed all-in and both players called. The river was the {A-Diamonds} and the button gave a victory yell as he held two more aces, hitting aces over fours. His cry was short lived as Bergquist quickly turned over quad fours. Berguist is up to 40,000 chips and still has his 10,000 rebuy chip.

To Redeem, or Not To Redeem

We have found at least one player who has chosen to electively take his extra 10,000 chips (Lindgren), and one who has been forced to take his extra 10,000 chips (Greenstein). From the looks of things so far - this tournament will move quickly.

More Bests

Brad Berman (sitting at the same table with father Lyle), Juha Helppi, O'Neil Longson, Bill Gazes, David Grey, Ram Vaswani, Rafi Amit, Ross Boatman, Burt Boutin, Paul Magriel, Johan Storakers, Kristy Gazes, Bruno Fitoussi, Tony G, Ted Forrest, Rolf Slotboom, Jani Sointula, William Thorsson, Vanessa Selbst...

Rebuys....Anyone?

The majority of players seem to have elected not to use their rebuy chips immediately. In fact we cant seem to find anyone who has. Although on a table near us John D'Agostino has proposed that the entire table raise all in blind. Which would give plenty of players the opportunity to exercise their rebuy option.

The Best of the Best

The talent pool in this event is not unlike that of the $50K H.O.R.S.E. event of a few days ago. This field is littered with marquee players. Marcel Luske, Erik Seidel, Gavin Smith, Doyle Brunson, Annie Duke, Chris Reslock, Young Phan, Robert Mizrachi, Huck Seed, David "Devilfish" Ulliott, Phil Ivey, Mickey Appleman, Erick Lindgren, Lyle Berman, Mike Sexton, Dewey Tomko, Phil Laak and Scotty Nguyen are all looking to do well in this event.
