Brian Nadell Eliminated by Amnon Filippi

Most players would welcome pocket kings with open arms while playing in the Main Event at the World Series of Poker, but Brian Nadell had one of those days in which this hand caused him nothing but trouble.

Not long before his elimination hand (below), Nadell picked up pocket kings in the big blind, only to run into the pocket aces of an opponent in the small blind! That hand left Nadell short-stacked and the following hand finished him off.

Once again, Nadell held pocket kings and went over the top of Amnon Filippi's preflop raise, making it 4,000 to go; Amnon called. The flop came {3-Clubs}

and Nadell moved all in, but cringed when Amnon called almost immediately and revealed {9-Spades}

, for top set.

Nadell was unable to catch a third king and was eliminated from the tournament. The elimination brought Filippi up to 50,000 in chips.

Rick Tocchet Doubles Up, And He Only Won Half The Pot!

This was a crazy pot. We saw three players limp in from from early position and a late-position player raise to 3,000.

The small blind missed the raise and announced "call," thinking that he was just calling the big blind. He was made to call the 3,000 and apparently that priced in all the limpers as well as the big blind, so six players saw a flop.

Flop {J-Hearts}

The action was checked to Rick who moved all in for 5,500, a bet that was called by the player next to act. The original raiser then moved all in for 20,000 and that bet was also called by the player in the middle.

The cards were Rick, {8-Clubs}

, middle player {6-Clubs}

, original raiser {A-Spades}

The turn was the {9-Spades}

and the river {6-Spades}

made a straight for two of the players.

Amir Vahedi Doubles Up

Vahedi moved all in for his last 3,350 holding {A-Hearts}

on a board of {A-Diamonds}

; his opponent called with {Q-Diamonds}

The river brought no help to either player and Amir's aces held up, driving his chip count just past his original 20,000 starting stack.

Chris Ferguson Goes Into Agressive Mode

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson has been playing quite aggressively, often raising and reraising pots. Recently Robert Varkonyi opened with a raise of 1,200. Action folded to Ferguson who reraised to 4,000. Varkonyi pondered for about five minutes before finally folding. Ferguson, calculated as always, remained expressionless as he stacked the pot.

Preflop, a middle-position player limps in, David Filippi on the button calls, the small blind calls, and the big blind raises all in to 6,500. The MP folds. Filippi calls. The SB folds.

Filippi shows the {10-Diamonds}

and his opponent has {J-Clubs}

. Unbelievably, Filippi flops a flush and it holds up. He's at 75,000 and the player with the jacks is busted.

Rafe Furst is Down, But Not Out

Rafe Furst moves all in preflop for about 3,500, and the player in the cutoff thinks for about two minutes and says, "Harrington says I'm supposed to call." He decides to fold, saying there are too many people behind him. The button and the blinds fold, giving the blinds and antes to Furst.

It's a small pot, but Furst increased his stack to 4,500 on that hand. When you're that low, every little bit helps.

Clonie Gowen Eliminated

Clonie moved all in from middle position for approximately 4,000 and was called by a single opponent in the big blind.

Clonie turned over {A-Clubs}

, while her opponent had her in a tough spot with {A-Diamonds}

. The board brought no help to Clonie and she was eliminated from the tournament.

Clonie shook hands with her tablemates and said, "Nice playing with y'all," before exiting the tournament area.

Once she was out of sight, one of the players still at the table noticed that Clonie left behind a pack of chewing gum. "Anyone want her gum?" he asked. "I'll take it," another player answered, suggesting that he might try to sell it on e-Bay.

A player on table 78 stood up to leave, his Main Event hopes dashed. He thought he had bet away the last of his chips. He took another look at them and realized that, in fact, he had 3,000 left. Still alive!

Moneymaker Picks Up a Few Pots

With the board reading {A-Spades}

, Chris Moneymaker took down a decent pot when he flipped up {A-Diamonds}

. His opponent mucked and Moneymaker took down the pot. A few hands later, the 2003 World Champion got maximum value from his 5-4 when he flopped a wheel and had his opponents calling to the river. Moneymaker won that hand as well and is now working with 40,000 in chips.

Amnon Filippi called a 1,600 raise from a player in middle position. The action then folded around to Brian Nadell on the button, who moved all in for a total of 6,100. The original raiser then pushed in his last 5,150 chips, prompting Amnon to fold his cards, {9-Spades}

, face-up on the table.

When it was time to turn 'em over, both Nadell and his remaining opponent showed pocket tens. "Ah, I want my cards back!!" Filippi said after seeing the others' hands.

The board filled out {Q-Diamonds}

and Nadell and his opponent chopped the pot. In the end, Amnon was pleased with his preflop fold.

The hand left Brian Nadell stuck at 9,000 in chips.
