A Decision Has Been Made

The situation we mentioned a few posts ago between Raul Lopez and Christiane Klecz has been ruled upon. WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack was called to the table and both Lopez and Klecz were asked how many chips they had before the hand, as well as how many chips of each denomination they had.

The blinds and antes that were paid before the hand were separated out, and when they re-created Klecz's stack from how many of each denomination of chip she said she had it matched with the total amount she said she had before the hand. Lopez's estimated stack did not correspond with the number of chips he said he held, and it was thus determined that Klecz did indeed have Lopez covered, and he was officially eliminated. Lopez still wanted to discuss the issue with the floor (which was of course difficult because he doesn't speak much English) and he was taken aside to continue the conversation.

Caught in the middle of all this were the other players at the table, who had to sit there for 20 minutes while this was sorted out. So it has been decided that they will be able to continue playing at the current blind level during our 20-minute break.

Julian Powell Takes a Huge Hit

Julian Powell
Julian Powell
Julian Powell raises to 9,000 in late position and the big blind reraises to 31,000. Powell goes into the tank and makes the call. The flop comes 5-7-8. The big blind leads out for 50,000 and Powell moves all in for 200,000 more. The BB goes into the tank for a long time and eventually calls, opening A-7. Powell has pocket Queens. The turn is a blank, but the river brings a repeat 7 and Powell is down to 60,000 in chips.

Lars Kjellgren Eliminated

Lars Kjellgren shoved with A-10 and he was called by Mimi Tran's 9-9. Tran's hand won the race and she increased her stack to 250,000.

"You don't lose pots, do you?" joked one player.

Tran smiled as she stacked up her chips.

"Oh, It's On His Hat!"

Chris "The Armenian Express" Gregorian just doubled up on a board of {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{K-Spades} holding {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. After the hand, Norm MacDonald, still lingering the rails here in the Amazon Room, approached one of our reporters and asked, "Is that Chris Gregorian?" Our reporter assured him it was and Norm, still in doubt, asked, "The Armenian Express guy?" Again, our reporter assured him it was, but this time Norm immediately responded, "OH! It's on his hat!".

"Yeah, that's him," our reporter responded. "Are you just messing with me?"

"No, I didn't see it was on his hat."

A few moments later, Norm was overheard telling a floor staff, "That's an awful picture of Jamie Gold," while addressing the giant banner of Bobby Baldwin.
