The Theory of Special Relativity At Work?

When you consider all the problems that could arise when hosting a massive event like the World Series of Poker, a strange issue continues to be a minor irritant. The tournament clocks displayed on flat-screen monitors throughout the Amazon Room...don't know how to tell time. For some bizarre reason the digital clocks are ticking away a fraction of a second faster than they should. Several officials spent the break timing the clock and it's still wrong.

So, when the clock comes close to expiring they'll be adding an additional four minutes to keep us on an even temporal keel. There are still tech people counting down the clocks with a stopwatch and trying to solve the riddle. Is Albert Einstein in the house?

Mike Sexton Busts David Singer

In middle position Mike Sexton raised to 1,600 and David Singer called on the button. The flop came {5-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Sexton led out for 2,400. Singer raised to 6,600 and Sexton bet the pot, which was enough to set Singer in. He made the call and showed {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for bottom pair and a flush draw, while Sexton held top-pair top-kicker with {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Singer had lots of outs but neither the {J-Hearts} on the turn nor the {3-Spades} on the river was on the list and Singer was eliminated. Sexton now has a 73,000 stack.

Antonio Esfandiari Builds his Stack

Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari
From the cutoff Antonio Esfandiari raised to 1,700 and the player on the button reraised to 5,000. Esfandiari potted it, which was enough to set the other player all in, and got the call. Antonio's {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} dominated his opponent's {A-Spades}{4-Spades}, and while the {J-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop gave his foe a wheel draw the {8-Clubs} on the turn and the {3-Hearts} on the river secured the pot for Esfandiari, who now sits with a 67,500 stack.

Galfond Loses to a Flush

Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond bet 2,500 on a flop of {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts}. His opponent raised to 7,500 and then Galfond moved all in. His opponent wasted little time in calling.

Galfond: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Opponent: {5-Spades}{4-Spades}

The turn brought the {8-Diamonds} and then the dealer delivered the vicious {K-Spades} on the river to eliminate Galfond from the tournament.

Grinding Sets

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi got all in with an opponent on the turn of a board showing the {K-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Mizrachi showed {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a set and had his opponent drawing dead going to the river. His opponent held top pair with the {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

A meaningless {K-Diamonds} fell on the river and Mizrachi is over 40,000 chips now.

Mueller Fights Back

After having his stack dwindled down to just 3,000 chips, Greg "FBT" Mueller bet his remaining chips on a board of {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Both Beth Shak and Patrik Antonius called the bet. The river fell the {5-Clubs} and increased the chances that Mueller's opponents held full houses.

When the cards were turned over, Mueller's {4-Clubs}{3-Spades} was the winning hand with a seven-high straight. Mueller has fought back and brought himself back to 17,000 chips.

Chen Puts his Bullets to Good Use

Bill Chen
Bill Chen
Bill Chen opened the action from the cutoff with a raise to 1,800. Mats Rahmn called from the button and then the small blind reraised to 6,600. Chen then moved all in to 19,100.

Rahmn folded on the button, but Chen was called by the small blind, who showed {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Chen turned over {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and had a commanding lead going to the flop.

Flop: {J-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Turn: {8-Diamonds}
River: {6-Hearts}

Chen doubled up--and then some--to just over 46,000.
