An Actual Hand

To prove that we're really following the action in the match between Lyle Berman and Alec Torelli, and not just taking potshots at how long the match is taking, we present the following hand that just occurred.

Preflop, Torelli made it 38,000 to go after Berman limped in. Berman made the call to see a flop of K-9-6. Torelli bet 52,000. Again, Berman made the call.

Both players checked through when the turn fell a 7. A river 6 paired the board, and this time Torelli bet 95,000. Berman made a quick call. Both players made top pair, but Torelli's queen kicker was one rank better than Berman's jack kicker.

After the hand, Torelli asked, "How do you feel about how badly I played the turn?"

Gold Coins?

At times, it seems that even the players aren't all that interested in the heads-up matches. Alec Torelli and Lyle Berman just spent four minutes discussing gold coins. No action occurred while they had the discussion.

Deja Vu All Over Again

Lyle Berman's last match of the night is taking an identical form as his previous match with David Williams. There are lots of small pots, with one bet preflop or on the flop often winning the pot. We could be here a while.

Trading Chips

Not much to say about the continuing match between Alec Torelli and Lyle Berman, except that the two combatants are once again roughly even in chips.

Kenny Tran Eliminates Brandon Adams ($54,144)

Kenny Tran kept pushing, pushing, and pushing at Brandon Adams. After chipping Adams down to 220,000, Tran delivered the killing blow. Adams moved all in preflop with {A-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}. Tran called with {K-Spades} {J-Diamonds}. Both players hit a pair on the {K-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {7-Spades} flop. The turn {8-Diamonds} didn't hit either player, but the crowd let out a gasp when the river {J-Clubs} made two pair for Tran. He advances to a Day 3 showdown with Jonathan Jaffe. Adams will collect $54,144 for his Elite Eight finish.

Gavin Griffin Eliminated?

Jonathan Jaffe
Jonathan Jaffe
In a shocking turn of events, Gavin Griffin has just been eliminated from the tournament after relinquishing a 10-1 chip lead!

Jaffe opened the pot with a 25,000 preflop raise and Griffin made the call. The flop came {2-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {6-Spades} and Jaffe fired a 50,000 bullet. Griffin then kicked it up a notch, making it 125,000 to go; Jaffe made the call.

The {J-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Jaffe fired another 50,000 feeler bet which prompted Griffin to move all in over the top of Jaffe's bet. Jonathan made the call and tabled {J-Spades} {8-Hearts} for top pair; Griffin showed the {4-Clubs} {5-Spades} for a pair and a gutshot straight draw.

The last card off the deck was the {8-Diamonds} giving Jaffe two pair, which was good enough to take down the pot and eliminate Griffin from the tournament.

Jaffe will face the winner of Kenny Tran v. Brandon Adams in tomorrow's 'final four.'

Jaffe Doubles Up

On a board showing {K-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} Jonathan Jaffe and Gavin Griffin exchanged raises until Jaffe was all in.

Jaffe: {Q-Hearts} {5-Hearts}
Griffin: {J-?} {10-?}

The {9-Spades} then fell on the turn giving Gavin the nut straight and the lead in the hand, but a heart popped off on the river giving Jaffe a flush and new life.

After the hand, Jaffe pulled within a few thousand of Griffin, practically evening up the match.

Vanessa Selbst has made it to Day 3 and the Final Four of this event. Preflop, Robert Mizrachi raised to 29,000. Selbst reraised to 75,000. Mizrachi shoved all in and Selbst made the call.

Mizrachi: {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}
Selbst: {A-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

Selbst hit the flop in a big way when it came down {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {9-Spades}. Mizrachi needed a king on the turn or river and didn't get it when they came {J-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}. He is eliminated in 8th place and will collect $54,144.
