Hellmuth in full dress regalia in an earlier '08 WSOP event. He'll be on hand Saturday to defend his title in Event #27.
It's sure to be another busy Saturday at the the 2008 World Series of Poker when Event #27, $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em, gets underway on Saturday. The popular weekend events with affordable buy-ins draw the largest attendance numbers outside the Main Event itself, and today's tourney will be no exception.

It was in this event last year that Phil Hellmuth Jr. captured his record-setting 11th career bracelet, shattering the three-way tie he had previously held with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan. Hellmuth also won $637,254, a huge payday that was somehow still secondary to the career wins mark.

PokerNews will, as always, be on hand with up-to-the-minute reports from the floor.

Big Blind Special

John Murphy and one other player limp before the big blind min-raises to 100. Both players call.

The flop comes {5-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {J-Clubs} before the big blind leads out for 200. Only John Murphy calls.

The turn comes {6-Clubs} and John Murphy calls another 200 bet.

The river brings {4-Spades} and Murphy calls a 300 bet this time but mucks when he sees the big blind's {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}.

Murphy on 2,400 at this early stage.

Nice Flop

Thang Nyugen raises to 150 from mid position and calls a reraise to 450 from a player on the button.

The flop comes {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs}. Nyugen check calls a 500 bet from the button player.

The turn comes {a-Hearts} and this time they both check.

The river comes {5-Spades} and once again Nyugen checks to call a 700 bet and flips over {8-Spades} {9-Clubs} for a flopped full house. The other player mucks.

Nyugen up to 4,500.
