Witteles Crippled on the River

Limit Hold'em:

Todd Witteles raised and a player behind him made the call. The flop came {10-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {2-Hearts} and Witteles led out. His opponent called.

The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and Witteles bet. His opponent raised and Witteles reraised. The other player called.

The river was the {J-Diamonds} and Witteles bet out again. His opponent raised and then Witteles just called.

Witteles showed {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} and his opponent turned over a rivered straight with {K-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}.

Witteles is down to 2,000.

Noah Boeken Out

Limit Hold'em:

Noah Boeken raised from late position. The small blind called. Both players took the flop {Q-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {2-Diamonds} and the small blind led out. Boeken raised and then the small blind reraised. Boeken announced that he was going to go all in and made another raise. The small blind called.

Boeken turned up pocket nines with his tournament life on the line. His opponent held top pair with {K-?} {Q-?}. The turn came the {3-Hearts} and the river the {4-Hearts} to send Boeken to the rail, shaking his head as he exited the room.

Double Knockout

Scott Bohlman and another player were both knocked out in the same hand. A player in the cutoff raised before Bohlman moved all in for 2,000 from the small blind. The big blind was just crippled and was already all in. The cutoff player called so we had a three way showdown.

Cutoff player showed {A-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}.
Bohlman showed {K-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}.
Big blind player showed {7-Spades} {3-Spades}.

The board ran {6-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}.

The paired ace good enough to rail both players.

Damn Those Clubs

Richard Redmond has just seen a 35,000 pot go the other way. On a board containing three clubs, Redmond had a set of tens and bet out. His opponent reraised a large amount all in with {A-Clubs}{7-?} and Redmond made the call. The fourth club came straightaway on the turn to send the huge pot the way of his opponent.

Remond still has 22,000.

Fast and Furious

Despite having each level consist of 30 minutes of limit hold'em, the play has been fast and furious. Players are dropping out fairly quickly, much quicker than expected by some. A few players have been commenting on the structure of the tournament, saying that the limit levels are being played too high and should be lowered.

The big stacks seem to dominate a lot of the no-limit sections by pushing around the smaller-stacked players. We're down to around 125 players from the beginning 731, with a little over an hour left in play. We could break 100 by the end of the night, but play should tighten up some as we approach the money bubble.

The Dragon Flies Out of Here

No-Limit:

David Pham was very short-stacked with 1,925 and moved them all in when it was folded around to him. Ari Engel called from late position so cards are on their backs.

Pham flipped over {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}.
Engel showed {A-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}.

The board was {10-Clubs} {K-Spades} {5-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}.

A three-outer for Engel. Never a nice way to bust from a tournament.

And Another

After dodging a three-outer moments ago to stay alive, Lou Esposito has just doubled up once more.

He got it all in preflop with {A-Diamonds} {5-Spades} and was up against Todd Witteles' {4-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}.

The board ran {10-Spades} {2-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {A-Spades} {8-Spades}.

The paired ace was good to put Esposito up to 5,900.

Guzzardi Loses a Big Chunk

Michael Guzzardi
Michael Guzzardi
Limit Hold'em:

On one of the last hands of this limit level, the button raised and Michael Guzzardi reraised from the small blind. The button called.

The flop came {10-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} and Guzzardi bet. The button called.

The turn was the {K-Hearts} and Guzzardi checked to his opponent, who bet. Guzzardi raised and his opponent called.

The river was another heart, the {3-Hearts}, and Guzzardi had bet dark. His opponent called and turned over {Q-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. Guzzardi showed pocket kings, for a losing top set and is down to 25,000.

A Short-Stacked Mimi Tran Out

Limit Hold'em:

Mimi Tran moved all in for her remaining 400 from the small blind after the button raised the action. The big blind folded and left Tran heads up with her tournament life on the line.

Tran: {K-Spades} {7-Hearts}
Button: {6-Spades} {4-Clubs}

The flop came {Q-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} to give Mimi a straight draw. The turn was the {8-Spades} and Tran only needed to dodge one more card.

The river came the {4-Diamonds} though and she was sent to the rail.
