Amarillo Drawing Slim

Amarillo Slim Preston limps from under the gun, and an opponent in late position raises him to 1,600. Slim calls.

The flop comes {7-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {9-Spades}. Slim fires out all in for his last 5,500 chips. His opponent makes the call, and turns up his overpair, {J-Spades} {J-Clubs}. Slim is behind, but still has outs, tabling {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}. The turn and river blank off though, {4-Clubs} and {A-Spades}. Failing to hit any of his cards, the legend heads off into the crowd.

Phan and Liu Trade Places

John Phan came in raising from middle position. J.J. Liu reraised behind him all in for approximately 22,000. Phan went into the tank for a couple of minutes.

"I think I'm ahead... I think you have ace-king," he said, trying to talk himself into the call. Finally, he did make the call and saw that he was right. Liu turned over {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}. Phan was indeed barely ahead with his {4-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}.

He couldn't fade the board though. It ran out {6-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}. The big pair on the river gave Liu the win and doubled her up to 45,000. Phan meanwhile has slipped to 17,000.

Gigaflush

A player raised to open from middle position with a raise. Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken reraises from the button, and the original raiser shoves all in when the action comes back around. Dicken calls and the hands are turned up:

Dicken: {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}

Gigabet was a big underdog, but the board allowed him to rally for the win. It came out {9-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {3-Spades} {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. The runner-runner hearts give Dicken the winning nut flush and send his opponent heading for the exit.

After the hand, tablemate Matt Stout informed Dicken that he was "sick and lucky." The eliminated player would likely agree with Stout's assessment.

Winston Smokes Tran

The action started when Chad Batista raised to 1,150. JC Tran called as well as two other players. The action was then on Roy Winston who raised all in for 10,000. Everyone folded except Tran, who called with {9-Spades} {9-Diamonds} and Winston tabled {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}.

The flop came {10-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {6-Spades} and Tran was still ahead. The turn then spiked the {9-Clubs} and Winston made a straight, taking the lead in the hand. Tran would need to pair the board in order to win the hand. The river blanked as the {Q-Spades} hit, giving Winston the monster pot.

Lots of Bust-Outs

Kenna James

We overheard Kenna James having a conversation with nobody in particular as he stared up at the tournament clock.

"Three-hundred forty players! It's just so incredible, over half the field!"

Gowen, Gowen, Gone

Before the flop, Clonie Gowen moved all in for her last 2,550 chips from under the gun. She made it almost all the way around the table before the small blind put in the call. Gowen tabled {8-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}, and was in trouble versus the {J-Spades} {J-Clubs} of her opponent. The board ran down {K-Clubs} {2-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {9-Spades}. Gowen failed to catch up, and she headed for the exit.
