WORLD Series of Poker, Indeed

There are nine players sitting at Table #6 in the Green section, including Australian cricket superstar Shane Warne. Of those nine players, just one is an American. This is doubtless a situation repeated many times throughout the Amazon Room.

Kollman Crushed

A late-position player limped into the pot before Erich Kollman raised it up to 350 from the button. The big blind called, as did the original limper.

They took a flop of {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, and the action checked to Kollman, who fired out 800. The big blind called before the LP player raised it up to 2,500. Kollman made the call as the BB stepped aside.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and Kollman called the the 3,000-chip bet of his opponent. The river landed the {3-Clubs} and the LP player fired out another 4,000, which Kollman called.

His opponent tabled {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a full house, as Kollman simply mucked his cards and slipped to 5,700 chips.

Reading Raymer

With the board reading {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, a player bet 2,000. Greg Raymer raised to 7,000. His opponent considered a moment, then made the call.

Raymer was hoping that raise would scare his opponent away, as he showed {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a busted flush draw. His opponent showed {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} for a set of jacks and dragged the pot.

Raymer has slipped to 14,500.

Dealer Sarah on the Job

Dealer Sarah just got in the box over on Orange 27. As soon as she arrived she advised Markus Golser that he can only speak English while a hand is in play. She also made Farzad Bonyadi reveal his larger denomination chips that he had hidden.

This dealer is kicking aces and taking names.

Daniel Negreanu Eliminated

It's a case of cruel and unusual punishment for Daniel Negreanu in today's Main Event. After seeing his stack slip a bit during the day, he was just eliminated when he flopped a set of sixes to his opponent's set of nines and all the money went in.

Making matters worse, Negreanu had some trouble leaving the feature table area because of the crowd thronging around to watch him play. Spectators were asking to take pictures as Daniel tried to make his way from the Amazon room.

Coren Has Kicker Problems

A late-position player made it 300 to see a flop. The cutoff seat called, as did the button and Victoria Coren in the small blind.

The four players took a flop of {A-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {6-Clubs}. Action checked to the cutoff and he bet 725. The button passed and Coren made it 1,600 to play. The initial raiser folded but the cutoff made the call. Coren and the cutoff went heads up to the {A-Hearts} turn. Coren check-called a bet of 2,700. The river fell the {Q-Hearts}, which prompted both players to check. Coren rolled over {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs} but couldn't beat the cutoff's {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}. She tossed her hand in and was left with just under 15,000 chips.

A Mellower Main Event: Same Big Dance, Fewer Costumes

In stark contrast to the circus atmosphere of previous Main Events, this year's "Big Dance" has started off in a remarkably mellow fashion. Aside from the fellow dressed in a wizard outfit yesterday there have been virtually no costumed players. Gone are the pimp hats, top hats, chef hats, and fur hats from yesteryear. Joe Sebok played in normal clothing rather than as a diapered bear, Jeff Madsen is back in his requisite Full Tilt gear rather than dressed as a jester and we have yet to spot any other prop bet losers dressed as superheroes.

Almost everyone we've spoken with over the past few days has commented at one point or another about how much more subdued the atmosphere has been this year. Perhaps the post-boom WSOP has left its adolescence and finally come of age?
