Day 3 Action Begins at Noon

Join us at noon for the start of Day 3 action in the 2008 WSOP $10,000 NLHE World Championship. For the first time, the survivors from four initial starting days and two Day 2 sessions will be merged into a single field. 1,307 players will be on hand at the start of the day's play, with one of the day's likely goals to be the reaching of the money bubble, where the top 666 players will cash.

We are set to begin with the final 1,307 players. We have heard that if we hit the money before five levels have completed, play will stop right there, but we don't have confirmation of that. They have said for sure that if we reach five levels on the bubble, play will continue, otherwise play will stop there. Still several hundred players to go before that happens!

Short Stacks Looking for Chips

"All in and a call," has already been heard numerous times around the room in the first three minutes of play.

Right in front of us, at table Blue 2, Chris Dyer pushed his last 2,600 chips forward on the very first hand of the day. When he survived, he donned a big grin and said, "Who's the greatest? Who's the greatest?!"

After a moment, he added, "That's all in number 10!"

Boyd Takes a Hit

Flop: {A-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}

Terry Boyd checked in early position and his opponent, from the button, made it 10,000 to go. Boyd check-raised to 32,000 and his opponent moved all-in for another 54,000. Boyd called and showed A-K for top pair, top kicker, while his opponent showed A-Q. The {Q-Clubs} on the turn gave his opponent the lead and Boyd was unable to get it back.

After the hand, Boyd is down to 250,000.

Chris Making No Money Today

From early position, Dragoslav Timarac opened the pot with a raise to 4,600. Action passed around to Chris Moneymaker across the table, and he moved all in for 34,500 total. Timarac called, and the two men showed down their hands of choice:

Moneymaker: {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs}

With the betting action complete, and Moneymaker at risk of elimination, the dealer ran out the board: {K-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. Timarac hit his card on the flop, and Moneymaker failed to find any of his out cards. A deep run this year would have silenced a lot of his critics, but the loss of that hand spells the end of the Main Event for Chris Moneymaker.

Will Souther Eliminated in Dramatic Fashion

Action folded around to Daniel Deveau in middle position and he moved all in. Will Souther called all in from the small blind for roughly 35,000 and the players showed:

Souther: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}
Deveau: {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds}

The flop came {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} putting Souther into the lead, but the {A-Clubs} hit the turn and fortunes were reversed. The {10-Spades} hit the river and Souther was eliminated.
