Read All About It! Media Man Derbyshire Busts

Derbyshire - not as smart as he looks
Derbyshire - not as smart as he looks
Ernst Hermans raised to 29,000 under the gun and it folded around to Marty Derbyshire on the button, who moved all in. The blinds folded back to Hermans who must have felt he was live and priced in, and made the call.

Derbyshire: {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}
Hermans: er... {5-Clubs} {7-Clubs}

Board: {10-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

Yikes. "Nice playing with you," said a very gentlemanly Derbyshire, "Nice hand." He made a sad face as he left the table though. Thus ended an excellent run for one of the hardworking poker media's own, and none will be more pleased for him than his co-workers -- Derbyshire was only playing for 35% of himself, with the rest divided among the other guys from his company. Happy days over at that particular media outlet...

Mega Monster Mammoth Hand for Meyer, Manole and Morales

Mihai Manole raised to 32,000 in the cutoff and was met with a push for 196,000 from Marcus Meyer on the button. Over to Roberto Morales in the small blind -- and he unexpectedly called all in for 154,000. Back to Manole -- and he called too. Wow.

Meyer: {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts}
Manole: {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}
Morales: {7-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}

Board: {8-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {8-Clubs}

A full triple up for Morales to around 470,000; a dejected Meyer busted out and was led to the payout desk, while Manole took the side pot but was still down on that hand.

Asked tablemate Marty Derbyshire, "How do you feel?" Replied Morales: "F***ing awesome."

Sick Call

The flop was out and read {6-Spades} {3-Hearts} {10-Clubs}. It seemed as if Roberto Truijers had called a raise from Chris Sparks while in the BB. He also decided to call a 39,000 bet from Sparks to see a {4-Diamonds} turn that both players checked through. The {A-Clubs} saw Truijers check once more to face a 100,000 bet that took Sparks at least two minutes to announce. Truijers took probably twice as long to decide, but made a great call with {2-Hearts} {2-Diamonds}. Sparks mucked.

Game, Set and Match for Patry.

Guillaume Patry and Benny Champlin were heads up in pot on the turn with the board reading {A-Spades} {4-Spades} {8-Clubs} {5-Hearts}. Patry led out for 49,000 and was called. The river {3-Spades} saw Patry move all in for his last 75,000 and received a quick call from Champlin with {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} for a turned set. Patry opened {A-Hearts} {J-Spades} to see his exit confirmed.

Kevin Pushes Davoudi Off

Ronnie Kevin, who has passed under our radar for much of the day, raised from the cutoff only for Ali Davoudi to reraise. Back over to Kevin, though, and he pushed. A sigh and a pass from Davoudi and Kevin took the pot, to rapturous applause from a single pro-Kevin railer.

Sevens Are Good for Seden

A very curious blind-on-blind confrontation between Chris Sparks and Andrew Seden, with which I caught up on the river of the {6-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {A-Clubs} board. Sparks made a very sizable bet, and with not much of a pause, considering, Seden called... And turned over pocket sevens. And furthermore... It was good! Sparks just mucked and was down to 320,000; Seden, however, is movin' on up to the East Side on 670,000.

Seth Race

Andy Seth has just eliminated Joe Simmons after all their chips went in preflop. Seth held {J-?} {J-?} to Simmons' {A-?} {Q-?}.

The board ran {J-?} {10-?} {4-?} {3-?} {9-?} to seal it for Seth.

Sundin Sets

It was folded around to Eric Sudin in the high jack who moved all in for his last 61,000. San Hanrich then moved all in to isolate from the SB and it worked as the BB folded. Sundin tabled {J-?} {4-?} to Hanrich's {A-?} {3-?}.

The board ran {A-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {A-Hearts} to confirm his exit.

There's No Savin' the Maven

The Maven - so good he gets the definite article
The Maven - so good he gets the definite article
A preflop encounter saw David Chicotsky all in from the big blind for around 200,000 with {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} -- but he was drawing pretty thin against Alan Jaffray's pocket {K-Spades} {K-Hearts}.

A glimmer of hope for the Maven on the {J-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {K-Diamonds} flop, but a bricky {4-Diamonds} turn and {5-Clubs} river sent him to the rail. He shook hands with everyone at his table in a most gentlemanly manner before heading for the payout desk.

Jaffray, whose t-shirt incidentally proclaims him to be not a fan of velociraptors, is up to almost 500,000.
