Sparks Fly for Shulruf

Joel Shulruf open-shoved under the gun for 75,000 and Chris Sparks called to his immediate left.

Sparks: {10-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}
Shulruf: in absolutely fantastic shape with {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

Board: {7-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {8-Hearts} ...

...

Bink!

{10-Hearts}

Ouch. Shulruf is bust, and Sparks is up to 550,000.

"You Going Crazy Again?"

We're not sure what happened, but there were chips in the middle indicating preflop action.
Marty Derbyshire led out from the BB for 18,5000 after the {7-Spades} {6-Spades} {J-Clubs} came down. Benny Champlin was his opponent and called from UTG before they both checked the {A-Spades} turn. The river {10-Clubs} saw Derbyshire check again to face a 40,000 bet.

"You going crazy again or did you hit the river?" Derbyshire aimed at his foe across the dealer. He followed this with, "I call," and opened {A-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. The pot went the other way though as Champlin held {A-?} {6-?} for two-pair.

Derbyshire on 95,000, Chaplin on 265,000.

Danger! Danger! Blinds Approaching!

There's still a lot of room to maneuver with this structure, but a few short stacks have emerged. Among those in the danger zone are the following:

Jason Gray: 45,000
Daniel Austin: 40,000
Scott Kleimann: 40,000

Peter Rho was firmly in that frightening place on 35,000, but he just now managed a timely double up with {A-?} {K-?} against {A-?} {10-?}, and is up to around 75,000 -- still precarious, but not as bad as it was...

Dustin Dirksen Doubles. A player in mid position makes it 24,000 to go before Dirksen moves in for 41,000. It's an auto call with {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades} but he's a big dog to Dirksen's {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}.

The board came {Q-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {4-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {A-Spades} to send Dirksen up to 92,000.

Aggression That Petered Out

Peter Rho made it 16,500 to go from EP before being three-bet by Guillaume Patry to 38,000. Everyone else folded, but Rho called leaving himself 60,000 behind.

That was the end of the aggression in this hand though, as it was checked through the {9-Spades} {6-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {A-Hearts} board. Patry takes it with {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts} to put him on 205,000.

Kara Scott Busts Out, to the Disappointment of Pretty Much Everybody

Scott - that's a hoodie, not a bathrobe by the way
Scott - that's a hoodie, not a bathrobe by the way
This tournament just got a whole lot less nice to look at -- Kara Scott is busto.

She and Roberto Truijers saw an {A-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} flop and Truijers check-called 29,000 from Scott. They proceeded to the {4-Diamonds} turn and here the action becomes a little hazy. Whatever happened, though, all the chips went in and the cards were flipped to reveal that Scott was very far behind, and the {2-Diamonds} on the river failed to save her tournament life.

Truijers: {A-Diamonds} {4-Spades}
Scott: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

The Dutchman is up to 600,000.

More for Marshak

Stuart Marshak raised to 15,000 in mid position only for the cutoff to move in for 65,000. A call, and Marshak was ahead all the way to knock out his opponent and put himself up to 185,000.

Marshak: {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}
Mr Busto Cutoff: {A-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}

Board: {Q-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}
