Victor's Hand Spoiled

With the board showing {8-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Hearts}, it checked to Victor Ramdin who bet, then his opponent check-raised him. "I think you flopped a set," said Ramdin, who nonetheless made the call.

The river was the {3-Hearts}, and Ramdin called his opponent's bet. His opponent showed {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} -- he'd turned the set, actually -- and Ramdin mucked, saying he had a king and a flush draw.

Ramdin currently has 24,500.

Witteles Helps Whittle Field

Todd Witteles had slipped back to about 16,000, then got involved in another hand with a short-stacked player who raised on the button, Witteles raised from the big blind, and his opponent called.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Witteles bet, and his opponent called. The turn was the {7-Spades}. Witteles again bet, and his opponent called with the last of his chips, saying "you got me" as he did.

Witteles did have him with {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts} versus the button's {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}. The river was the {4-Clubs}, the player was eliminated, and Witteles is up to about 19,000.

There are presently 171 players left.

Many Chips for Damany

Bill Chen raised from the hijack seat, Paul Damany raised from the cutoff, and both the button and big blind called, as did Chen.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. It checked to Chen who bet, Damany raised, the button folded, the BB called, and Chen called, too. The turn was the {8-Hearts}. The players checked to Damany who bet, and both called.

The river brought the {4-Clubs}. It checked again to Damany who again bet. The BB folded, and Chen, with what appeared some reluctance, made the call.

"Two pair," said Damany, showing his {K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. "That's good," said a smiling Chen, tapping the felt with the side of his fist.

Both Chen and Damany have big stacks at the moment. Chen has about 38,000, and Damany 41,000.

Not Worth It

Rayan Nathan
Rayan Nathan
Rayan Nathan raised from early position, and it folded around to the very short-stacked big blind who made the call. The flop came {7-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{6-Spades}. The BB checked, Nathan bet, and his opponent check-raised, leaving himself just another big bet or so behind. Nathan let it go.

Nathan is down to about 7,500 himself at the moment.

Break Time

Players are taking their last 20-minute break of the evening. When they return, they will play two more one-hour levels and call it a night.

I Got Rhythm

It checked to Barry Greenstein, he bet the flop of {8-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Spades}, and his opponent instantly called. The turn was the {8-Diamonds}, and once again Greenstein's opponent quickly check-called his bet.

The river was the {7-Hearts}. Greenstein's opponent checked, and this time the Bear hesitated just a moment before betting. His opponent didn't anticipate the change in tempo, and went ahead and tossed out his chips to call before Greenstein could bet.

The table chuckled, Greenstein thought a moment, then perhaps picking up something in the timing of his opponent's actions, decided to make the bet.

Greenstein turned over {K-Clubs}{7-Spades} for a rivered pair of sevens, and his opponent mucked. Greenstein now has about 22,000.

Major Tom

Phil Tom, the man with two first names and one WSOP bracelet in last summer's $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout event, is on a bit of a rush at the moment, having just won three consecutive hands.

In the first, two jacks came on board, fitting nicely with the {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} he was holding.

In the second, he had position for a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} from which he called an opponent's bet. He also called the bet that came after the {3-Hearts} on fourth street. He and his opponent checked the {2-Clubs} river, and Tom turned over {K-Spades}{J-Spades} for top pair. His opponent, holding pocket nines, had to accept that planet Earth is blue and there was nothing he could do.

Tom eliminated an opponent on the third hand, and now has 18,500.

Let's Just Have a Look

Rami Boukai open-raised from the cutoff, and both blinds called. The flop came {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}. It checked to Boukai who bet, and just the big blind stuck around. The turn was the {J-Spades}, and this time the BB led out. Boukai called.

The river was the {8-Hearts}. The big blind bet again, and Boukai decided to make the call, turning over {A-Spades}{9-Spades} for ace-high. Good call, as his opponent showed {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

Boukai has 13,000.

Shun Shown the Door

A short-stacked Shun Uchida had been folding most of his hands for the last hour, but finally found one to go with and raised, getting one caller in the big blind. The flop came {7-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. The big blind bet, Uchida raised with the last of his chips, and the BB called.

The big blind player showed {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, and Uchida tabled {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}. The turn was the {10-Clubs} and the river {6-Diamonds}, and Uchida is out.
