Up and Down for the Iceman

Interesting back to back hands for Teddy "Iceman" Monroe -- one lost, one won.

Seeing a {10-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {8-Clubs} flop, Monroe called a bet from his opponent, as he did on the {6-Spades} turn as well. His opponent bet out again on the {A-Diamonds} river and this time Monroe raised -- but mucked when his opponent showed pocket {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds}, flashing him an ace.

Monroe got most of the chips back the next hand though, when he bet every street of the {9-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {4-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} board and his opponent check-called all the way down. Monroe turned over {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} for a flush draw that had turned into top pair on the river, and his opponent mucked.

That's How the Brunson Family Rolls

After both Doyle and Todd Brunson played the $10,000 Limit Hold'em event the other day, with Todd managing a 14th place cash, today we have only one Brunson in our low-to-mid roller event -- Ms Pam Brunson. Although of course we're only three levels in yet, so there's still time for any other Brunsons who may have bought in to arrive.

Newly Arrived

The cool kids always show up late, and a full two levels in the following superstars have joined us in the Amazon Room:

- Phil Ivey
- Alex Kravchenko
- Andy Black
- Shawn Buchanan
- Reigning Limit Hold'em World Champion as of two days ago Greg Mueller

What Are the Red Chips?

Today's tournament featured some very curious items -- red $5 chips. Not 500 or 5,000, just 5, to facilitate the 30/60 level. After just two levels of play, their usefulness has been outlived and they are being colored up right now.

JC Not Walking On Water So Far

Moderate early woe for J.C. Tran -- he's down to 5,325 from what must have been a pretty decent start.

Tran raised under the gun only for the gent to his left to reraise. The button called, Tran called and they saw a {4-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} flop. Tran checked and the gentleman who had reraised preflop bet. The button called and now Tran raised; two callers and they arrived at the {10-Diamonds} turn. Tran now bet out and both players called, and he bet out again on the {7-Hearts} river. The gent on his left called but the button raised; Tran called, the other gentleman passed, and Tran mucked when Mr Button turned over {7-Spades}{4-Spades} for a rivered two pair.
