It's pretty standard around here for players to enter two events in one day. What's not so standard is for a player to survive both Day 1s of a tournament, but that's exactly what Nam Le has done.
So far, Nam has not showed up in his seat for Day 2 of this $10,000 PLO tournament. He started the day with just over 94,000, so he's not in immediate danger of being blinded out.
Instead, Nam is grinding away at Day 2 of event 39 - $1,500 NLHE. Over at that tournament, he is currently at 35,000 in chips where the average stack is 44,000.
We'll keep you posted on his progress in both tournaments and see how he decides to manage his time.
Stephen Pierson has been sent to the rail after committing his last chips on a flop of . His opponent was Howard Lederer, who tabled . Lederer held the lead but Pierson had plenty of cards to catch to improve with his .
The turn was the and the river bricked the to give Lederer the pot and eliminate Pierson from the tournament. "The Professor" moves up to 110,000 chips.
While balancing and breaking of tables is pretty standard in tournament poker, one of the rare sights is the moving of an entire table. Well we've seen it twice already today.
One table was relocated earlier today because it was "too cold" due to an air conditioner which definitely projects its frozen goodness directly onto that particular table.
Another table has just been moved entirely after one of the players spilled a bottle of water all over the table. While they are now on dry ground, the bad news is they've been moved to the above mentioned "cold table".
Freddy Deeb opened the action with a raise to 4,200 with Ferit Gabriellson calling in the small blind, before Hans Varsi popped it up to 16,800 from the big blind. Both opponents called and they took a flop of .
The three players all checked and the free card on the turn was the . Gabriellson led out at the pot with a bet of 40,000. Varsi folded but Deeb made the call.
On the river, both players slowed down and checked. Gabriellson tabled for top two pair to collect the pot as Deeb mucked. Gabriellson climbs to 155,000 with Deeb back to 57,000.
After leading for large periods of play yesterday, Jimmy Fricke has struggled to get going today, but he's just found a nice double up that may get the momentum back in his direction.
The flop was with Fricke clashing with Ben Lamb. Fricke was all in and tabled for top set as Lamb would need to find some help with .
The turn was the to give Fricke a full house and the river the and Fricke doubles to about 94,000.
Sam Khouiss has been recently eliminated from the tournament. We didn't catch the action but overheard Khouiss mutter "I got rivered..." as he walked past our desk and out the door.
Barry Greenstein raised to 5,000 before the flop and was called by the big blind. The flop came . The big blind checked and Greenstein made a continuation bet of 7,500.
The big blind made a check-raise to 17,500 and Greenstein threw his hand away.
