Kassela and Smith Chop Up Elezra

Omaha-8

On a flop of {J-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {2-Spades}, Frank Kassela led out from UTG, Justin Smith raised from middle position, Eli Elezra called two bets from the cutoff, and Kassela called as well. The turn was the {J-Spades} and Kassela checked over to Smith, who bet. Elezra called and Kassela called. The river fell the {3-Diamonds} and Kassela checked again. Smith bet, Elezra folded, and Kassela called.

Kassela showed {A-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {3-Spades} and took the low with 8-7-3-2-A while Smith won the high with {J-Hearts} {10-Spades} {8-Spades} {7-Hearts} for a full house.

Cue Cards for Singer

David Singer

During a H.O.R.S.E. event at the WSOP, the dealers will have a large red placard displayed in front of them which denotes which of the five poker variants is currently being played. Every eight hands the game will rotate.

However, that's apparently not enough for David Singer, who we spotted with his own hand-made notes in front of him. Written in pen on small pieces of paper, Singer has placed the notes behind his chips, so he should avoid making the rather crucial mistake of playing the wrong game.

Players Return from Break

After a bit of an extended break with a stop for the 2 p.m. bracelet ceremony (where $10K Pot-Limit Hold'em bracelet winner John Kabbaj had the Sex Pistols' version of "God Save the Queen" played), the cards are back in the air.

2008 Final Tablists in the Field

Of the eight players that made the final table of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event last year, only five are in their seats as of now-- Patrick Bueno (8th), Huck Seed (7th), Matt Glantz (4th), Erick Lindgren (3rd), and Scotty Nguyen (1st).

Missing are Lyle Berman (5th), Michael DeMichele (2nd), and Barry Greenstein (4th), though Greenstein is expected to join the field shortly before registration closes as he does have the final table of the $2,500 Mixed Event to play.

Presto Hits for Chen

Both Bill Chen and Frank Kassela put three bets apiece in on a {J-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} flop. Both players checked the {Q-Hearts} on the turn. The river was the {A-Clubs} and Chen led out. Kassela raised and Chen called.

Chen turned up {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} for a set and raked in the pot.

Pescatori on Lisandro Watch

The Italian Pirate, Max Pescatori has just arrived and taken his seat alongside Dan Shak.

As he looked around the room Pescatori commented, "What happened? Did everyone hear Lisandro was playing and decide not to turn up?"

He's a Good Fellow

Stud-8

Negreanu: (X-X) {2-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Fellows: (X-X) {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} (X)
Shak: (X-X) {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{J-Diamonds} (X)

Daniel Negreanu was the bring in, then folded on fourth after Dan Shak bet. Shak led the betting until sixth, where Fellows took over. On the river, Fellows fired a bet and Shak check-called.

"No low," said Fellows.

"No low? What's the high?" quizzed a surprised Shak.

"Full house," replied Fellows as the boards were tabled.

Fellows: {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} ({7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs})
Shak: {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{J-Diamonds} ({A-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Spades})

Fellows took down a bracelet this year in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, so he will definitely be one to watch over the next five days of action.

Isn't It Lovely When a Big Draw Hits?

Hold'em

Brett Richey raised from the cutoff, Justin Bonomo three-bet from the small blind and Richey called. Bonomo bet out on the {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {4-Hearts} flop, Richey raised and Bonomo called. The turn was the {7-Clubs}. Bonomo check-called a bet from Richey and did the same on the {J-Clubs} river.

Richey turned over {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} for a jack-high straight. Bonomo mucked and Richey raked in the pot.
