Greenstein Makes Surprise Scoop

Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein
Stud-8

One of the favorite players of our shoutbox railbirds, Barry Greenstein has just collected an interesting Stud-8 pot.

Greenstein: (X-X) {3-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} (X)
Bueno: (X-X) {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{K-Spades} (X)

We caught the action on sixth street with Greenstein betting and Pat Bueno making the call. On the river, Bueno checked, Greenstein bet and Bueno called him down.

Greenstein revealed ({A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{Q-Spades}) and Bueno took a look at his own cards and mucked.

"Did you just scoop without a pair?" pondered Jerry Buss, as indeed Greenstein's seven-low and ace-high were good to scoop!

Greenstein is up to 145,000 as Bueno is crippled with just 15,000 chips.

Farzad Bonyadi Doubles through Howard Lederer

Hold'em

Farzad Bonyad and Howard Lederer capped the betting pre-flop and the rest of Bonyadi's chips went in on the {Q-Spades} {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts} flop. Though Lederer had the better hand pre-flop with {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}, Bonyadi outflopped him with {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}.

The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, the river was the {9-Clubs} and Bonyadi doubled to 80,000 while Lederer was left with only 33,000.

Stud

John Monnette (X)(X){9-Clubs} {4-Spades} {3-Hearts} {J-Spades} (X)
Phil Ivey (X)(X) {7-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {5-Spades} (X)

We picked this one up on fourth street with Ivey leading out and Monnette making the call. Ivey fired again on fifth street, Monnette looking him up. Ivey checked sixth, then called Monnette's bet. Ivey called one more bet on the river.

Monnette showed {8-?} {8-?} {8-?}, having hit his set on the river and raked in the pot, taking his stack up to 402,000.

Wahlbeck Wheels One In

Stud-8

Kravchenko: (X-X) {a-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} (X)
Wahlbeck: (X-X) {5-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} (X)

Alex Kravchenko completed and Ville Wahlbeck made the call on third street, before Wahlbeck fired bets the whole way. Kravchenko called him down.

Wahlbeck tabled {5-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} ({3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}) for the wheel, good for the high and the low, to scoop the pot. He's up to 195,000 with Kravchenko slipping to 210,000.

Lesson Over

Howard Lederer Eliminated
Howard Lederer Eliminated
Hold'em

"The Professor" has given his last lesson to this class as Howard Lederer has just made a reluctant exit from the tournament.

Lederer was the preflop aggressor and followed up with bets on the flop and turn, but when his last chips went in on a board of {6-Spades}{J-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, Lederer found himself drawing dead with {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} against the flush of Farzad Bonyadi with {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

The meaningless river was the {10-Spades} and Lederer joins the day two eliminations.

Chip Up for Chen

Omaha-8

Bill Chen has just scooped a nice pot after firing bets on the turn and river on a board of {Q-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}.

His opponent Abe Mosseri called him down but mucked when Chen tabled {A-Hearts}{2-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} for the nut-low and six-high straight.

Chen is now comfortably placed with 250,000 chips.

Hollink Survives in Stud Shocker

I won?!?
I won?!?
Stud-8

Rob Hollink (X)(X) {7-Spades} {3-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {4-Spades} (X)
Justin Smith (X)(X) {10-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {7-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} (X)

Rob Hollink had only one 500 chip behind when he called Justin Smith's lead bet on sixth street. Smith set him all in on the river.

"I'm out!" Hollink sighed as he picked up his cards and took a look. Resignedly, he tossed the chip into the pot.

"If you have a pair, you win," said Smith.

"Really?" cried Hollink, who opened up {8-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for a mere pair of fours. Smith mucked his hand.

Hollink raked in the 90,000 pot in shock, while Smith's stack fell to 61,500.

Seidel Cripples Evdakov

Stud

Erik Seidel (X)(X) {8-Clubs} {7-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} (X)
Nikolay Evdakov (X)(X) {J-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} (X)

There was already 80,000 in the middle by the time these two reached seventh street, Seidel leading out, Evdakov raising, Seidel making it three bets and Evdakov calling.

Seidel turned up {7-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {9-Hearts} for queens full of sevens and Evdakov mucked. He was left with only 17,000 while Seidel chipped up to 205,000.

On the 7th Day God Created Razz

Razz

Ferguson: (X-X) {6-?}{4-?}{7-?}{8-?} (X)
Mosseri: (X-X) {8-?}{3-?}{4-?}{9-?} (X)

Chris Ferguson completed on third and Abe Mosseri made the call, before Mosseri led the betting on fourth and fifth.

On sixth, Ferguson led out but Mosseri raised. Ferguson made the call and then checked the river to Mosseri who bet. Ferguson check-raised and Mosseri called.

Ferguson tabled {6-?}{4-?}{7-?}{8-?}({2-?}{4-?}{5-?}) for a seven-low to collect the pot and move up to 185,000 to leave Mosseri under pressure on the short stack.
