New Approach Suits Beasley

Mike Beasley had lost the first few hands he'd played. When it folded to him in late position, he said "Let's try this," and just limped. Tom Schneider raised behind him, the others folded, and Beasley called.

The flop came {7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Beasley checked, Schneider bet, and Beasley called. The turn was the {K-Spades}, and this time Beasley check-raised Schneider's bet, and Schneider called.

The river was the {6-Diamonds}. Beasley bet, Schneider called, Beasley showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for kings, and Schneider mucked. A few hands after that one, Beasley was at 32,000 while Schneider has slipped to 30,000.

Williams Winning

David Williams
David Williams
After a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, David Williams bet (600) from the small blind, Erik Haakenson raised from the button, Williams reraised, and Haakenson called.

The turn was the {3-Hearts}. Williams bet (1,200), Haakenson raised, and Williams called. The river brought the {8-Spades}. Williams checked, Haakenson bet, Williams check-raised, and Haakenson called.

Williams showed {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for the straight, and Haakenson mucked. Williams is up to 64,000 as we approach the halfway point of Level 1, while Haakenson is at 37,000.

Slow Start for Bellande

Roman Ginzburg raised from the cutoff, and Jean-Robert Bellande called from the big blind. The flop came {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Bellande checked, Ginzburg bet, Bellande check-raised, and Ginzburg called. The turn was the {K-Hearts}. Bellande again checked, Ginzburg bet, and this time Bellande just called.

The river was the {2-Diamonds}. This time Bellande check-folded to Ginzburg's bet. After suffering a couple of hits early on, Bellande is now down to 25,500.

Tanniru Takes Off

Robert Tanniru is off to a quick start over on Table #248, winning a couple of sizable pots to trip up over 60,000 in the early going. He took most of those extra chips off of Matthew Sterling, who is quickly down to 27,000 (from his starting stack of 45,000).

Heads Up a Little Sooner Than Anticipated

There are a few empty seats here and there at our eight tables, though most are filling up. Over at Table #246, however, there are only two of the eight players currently seated -- Sam Hiatt and Erik Haakenson.

"We put out a hit on the other players," Haakenson cracked.

The 64-Player Question

We're about 15 minutes away from the start of Round 2 of Event No. 50, the $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout.

All 64 returning players returning today will be earning at least $4,350 for this event, but all are eyeing the larger cash prizes -- and the coveted WSOP gold bracelet -- that will go to those eight players who win their tables today and return for tomorrow's eight-handed final table.

Back in a few.
