Event 50 - $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout

Day 2 Completed

Day 2 Concludes

Joep van den Bijgaart

From 572 to 64 to 8. Those were the steps taken as the field narrowed through the first two days of Event No. 50, the $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout. Today the 64 winners of Friday's tables came to play eight eight-handed tables, and from each emerged one player with all the chips -- and a ticket to tomorrow's final table.

Joep van den Bijgaart was the first one to win his table and claim a spot in Sunday's final, followed soon thereafter by David Williams. Marc Naalden, Jose Barbero, Greg Mueller, and Matthew Sterling next took their tables in fairly rapid succession.

As the night wound down, Millie Shiu came back from a considerable deficit when heads up against Ben Ponzio to win her table. And finally Flaminio Malaguti took the last of Andreas Hoivold's chips to earn the last spot at tomorrow's final table.

These eight players have all guaranteed for themselves at least a $13,655 payday from this event. But all are eyeing that $194,854 first prize -- and, of course, the coveted WSOP gold bracelet. Join us tomorrow at 2 p.m. to follow all of the action from the Event No. 50 final table!

Final Table for Flaminio Malaguti

Flaminio Malaguti

Tomorrow's final table is set, as Flaminio Malaguti has just defeated Andreas Hoivold after a lengthy heads-up battle.

On the final hand of the night, Malaguti raised from the button, Hoivold reraised, and Malaguti called. The flop came {J-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Hoivold bet, and Malaguti called. The turn was the {9-Hearts}, and again Malaguti called Hoivold's bet.

The river was the {3-Diamonds}. Hoivold checked, Malaguti bet, and Hoivold called with his last chips. Malaguti showed {Q-Clubs}{9-Spades} for nines, and Hoivold mucked. The final eight is set!

Standoff at the Shootout

Flaminio Malaguti and Andreas Hoivold are still battling back and forth as they continue the last of the eight matches.

They are nearly even in chips at the moment, each having about 180,000. That's nine big bets here in Level 9.

Millie Shiu Advances

Ben Ponzio survived a little longer, but finally was forced all in (again) with {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} against Millie Shiu's {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}.

The flop was {3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts}, which was promising for Ponzio. But the turn was the {8-Hearts} and the river the {J-Clubs}, and Shiu advances.

Ponzio on the Precipice

Ben Ponzio was just now down to his last 15,000 against Millie Shiu, but managed to double up the next two hands to climb back to 60,000 -- just three big bets, though, at this level.

Shiu has 300,000.
