The Hellmuth Chronicles

After having built up to 80,000 or so, Phil Hellmuth has had a fairly up and down last couple of levels.

Last level, he took a hit in a hand which began with him raising preflop and getting called by a player from the blinds. The flop came {J-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, his opponent checked, he made a big overbet of 25,000 -- just a 100 more than his opponent's stack -- and his opponent quickly called, showing {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Hellmuth had a lot of outs with his {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, but the turn was the {4-Clubs} and the river the {9-Hearts}. The Poker Brat was down to 45,000 after that one.

He'd slip down below 30,000, then get some back in a hand in which he limped from the button, then called the small blind's raise to 3,700. The flop came {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}, the small blind bet 6,500, and Hellmuth called. The turn was the {5-Spades} and both checked. The river was the {6-Spades}. The SB checked, Hellmuth bet 5,000, and his opponent called. Hellmuth showed {K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, and his opponent mucked. He was back up to 40,000.

Recently Hellmuth was involved again in a three-way hand in which the flop had come {K-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts}, the big blind checked, Hellmuth bet 7,000, the button folded, then the big blind reraised all in. Hellmuth folded, and now he's down to 21,500.
