Cooler Alert: Straight Flush vs. Quads

On a board of {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {8-Spades} {7-Spades} {J-Spades}, a player bet 1,500 into Radek Stockner. Stockner made a large raise to 6,250 and his opponent reraised to 12,000. Stockner moved all in and his opponent immediately called for his last 25,000.

Opponent: {A-Spades} {J-Clubs}
Stockner: {9-Spades} {10-Spades}

That's right - the river brought the ultimate action card, giving Stockner a straight flush and his opponent quad jacks.

Radek Stockner eliminates his opponent and takes the large pot with his straight flush, moving up to 67,500.

Baron Flops Monster and Loses

Welcome Isaac Baron to the Orange Section, and do it quick because he may not be here long. Baron got one opponent all in on a flop of {10-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {8-Hearts}. Baron flopped the nuts, {9-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, but had to sweat as his opponent showed woth {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}, a set of tens. The turn {4-Clubs} did not pair the board, but the river {J-Spades} did.

Baron's opponent had 19,750 in his stack. Baron had to pay that off and has slipped to 10,000 chips.

Quads!

Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang made it 800 to go from early position and got re-raised to 2,600. Yang made the call and went heads up to a flop of {6-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

Yang check-called for 2,625 and then called all in for his last 11,325 after his opponent bet 12,000 when the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn.

Yang: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

The {10-Clubs} on the river gave Yang the nuts and bounced him back into positive territory with a chip stack of 34,000.

Auf Weidersehen, Jan

With 8,000 already in the pot and the board reading {J-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} on the turn, Toa Dang moved all in and Jan Von Halle made the call for his last 7,600.

Dang {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs}
Von Halle {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades}

ESPN's camera crew scurried over to the table to capture the action but Von Halle, drawing dead in the hand, didn't stick around to see the river card and hit the rail.

Hansen Arrives Late

Some players came back from their first break to find an (un)welcome addition to their table. Gus Hansen has joined the field in today's Day 1 action.

Set Over Set Hurts Tureniec

It could have been worse for Michael Tureniec. We heard the fateful words "All in and call on 91!" ring out from the dealer at Tureniec's table. Tureniec showed down {4-Diamonds} {4-Spades} on a {7-Hearts} {J-Spades} {4-Hearts} flop. His opponent had a biger set, {7-Spades} {7-Clubs}. The turn and river bricked out, forcing Tureniec to double his opponent up. It only cost Tureniec 11,375 chips, knocking him back to 35,000.

He's Got Secrets Can't Leave Cancun

The empty nine seat on Roland de Wolfe's table over in the Blue section was filled by yet another young man in a baseball cap and a PokerStars hoodie. Upon closer examination, however, it was revealed to be none other than rap star Nelly, who has been a constant presence here at the WSOP. We even spotted him grinding out $325 satellites in the wee hours of the morning last week!

Nelly has had a bit of a rough go of it thus far, and is down to 12,000 in chips.

Mila?

Mila and not-Mila
Mila and not-Mila
Okay, we may have spoken too soon. Despite the striking resemblance to the aforementioned star of television and screen, it may not be her after all. There's still a raging debate among the media, but it appears we've just spotted a very attractive lady who is not Mila Kunis. We weren't alone in thinking (hoping) it was her though; our own boss is on the hook for $500 if it turns out to be someone else.

Danzer Bows Out

Just before the break, George Danzer was finally put out of his misery. After a raise from Thayer Rasmussen and two calls, Danzer moved all in for his last 6,200 chips. Rasmussen quickly called as the others folded away. Danzer was in bad shape with {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} against his opponent's {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}.

The board ran dry for the all-in player too, coming {10-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}. After sliding for two full hours, George Danzer has been relieved of the rest of his chips, and his WSOP is done.

Table Change

There was an open seat at Brad Garrett's table, and it was a long time before they found a player to fill it. You can imagine the look on the players' faces then when Jason Alexander came wandering over with his chip rack after the break. Taking his seat to the left of the dealer, Alexander has now become part of what is easily the funniest table in the room.
