First Out

Wow, it's amazing how quickly $10,000 can slip through your fingers in Vegas.

The honor of being the first to bust today goes to Mr Kim Sherlin, who got his whole stack in with top two pair on the turn against the flopped straight of Dave D'Alesandro, with one hour and 55 minutes left of level one -- that's five minutes in, to you and me.

Commiserated fellow Brit Vicky Coren from the next table, "Well, at least you were efficient. Most of us are going to waste three days here, for nothing."

We now confidently declare Mr D'Alesandro chip leader, on 60,000 in chips, give or take.

Moneymaker Starts at #1

The man that many consider responsible for the poker boom is none other than Chris Moneymaker.

The amateur player with a name made for poker, qualified online back in 2003 and went on to win the Main Event, which sparked a surge in poker that had never been seen before.

He's back today for another shot at the Holy Grail, and interestingly amongst this massive field, will spend his day at table #1.

Some of the other early notable players in this section bring an international flare to this 4th of July, with Vicky Coren, Ralph Perry, Luca Pagano, Fabrice Soulier, Andrew Scott and Sam Khouiss part of the field on Day 1b.

Green Monsters

Over in the green section towards the back of the Amazon room, we've spotted the following players:

Burt Boutin
Benjamin Gilbert
Mike Caro
Rolf Slotboom
Erik Seidel
Pam Brunson
Kirill Rabstov

That's One Expensive Meat Snack

Sounds like we already have our first elimination -- about five minutes into play! A player with ace-jack made top pair, top kicker, but lost his 30,000 chips to another who'd made a queen-high straight. Details to come.

At least he got that free bag of Jack's Link beef nuggets provided to each of our entries today.

Feature Tables

Yesterday's feature tables were a little more stacked with big names than today's are. We've only spotted Mike "The Mouth" Matusow at the main feature table and Doyle Brunson at the secondary feature table in the early goings here. The rest of the seats are filled with unknowns covered in online poker logos from the various sites.

Jacks for the Win

Hurrah, the fine people at Jack Links have decreed that anyone who makes quad jacks today (do you see what they did there?) will get themselves a Jack Links sack of meaty treats worth around $100. Mmm.

Day 1b Kicks Off Shortly

Good morning all, and welcome back to the Amazon Room for part two of this year's Main Event saga. So far we're looking at a slightly smaller field than yesterday, but we're expecting the numbers to creep up right up to the 1,000 mark before registration closes.

It's a varied field that is taking its collective seats at the collective felt right now, though, so expect the usual Main Event craziness right from the outset.

Keep your eyes glued to PokerNews.com all day for updates. It's going to be a good one.
