Some Folks Really Want to Get to Day 2

The following curiosity just took place with about half an hour left in the last level of the night.

A player under the gun limped, then the player in the cutoff raised to 4,050. It folded to the player in the big blind who reraised to 12,000, leaving himself 29,000. The UTG player folded, then the player in the cutoff reraised all in for his stack of 45,000.

The player in the big blind considered a bit, then folded his {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} face up.

Dutch Boyd Up

Yay!
Yay!
Dutch Boyd, seated for a while now at Phil Ivey's table, tangled with the Great Phil himself just now, and came out on top.

We caught the action on the {A-Spades} {3-Spades} {6-Diamonds} flop, when Boyd bet out 1,500 from the big blind. Ivey made it 4,500, and Boyd called.

They both checked the {4-Spades} turn, and indeed the {8-Spades} river. Boyd turned over {3-Clubs} {6-Hearts} for two pair -- and an Ivey muck later, he was the proud possessor of 128,000 in chips. Ivey dips to 87,000.

Another Dilemma

Tournament officials may have another problem on their hands at the conclusion of play here this evening.

With 1,109 players surviving Day 1c, and potentially another 1,800-1,900 players surviving Day 1d, that's going to push the total number of players returning for Day 2b close to the 3,000 player mark.

With the "capacity" determined to be 2,809 here today, it's going to be interesting (or perhaps a little scary) to see what goes down on Thursday when these players are reseated for Day 2 play.

We assume that the massive numbers from yesterday and today, combined with the slower than expected rate of eliminations (due to deeper starting stacks) has contributed to this situation.

Nordenstam Looking Down

Cecilia Nordenstam
Cecilia Nordenstam
Cecilia Nordenstam had seen her stack move down to about 25,000, then found herself up against an all in opponent following a flop of {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Nordenstam held {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for top pair and a flush draw, but her opponent had {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} for the set of fives.

The turn was the {K-Clubs} and the river the {J-Spades}, and Nordenstam is now down to about 11,000.

Up $5,000 But on the Move!

$5,000 richer!
$5,000 richer!
Matthew Marafioti didn't need to last the remainder of the level, but only 15 minutes after taking the last shot.

With Tom Dwan just confirming that he succeeded in completing the prop bet, and now $5,000 richer, Marafioti, Dwan and the rest of the table were presented with some bad news.

Their table is about to be broken, and consequently Marafioti will have to depart the table of fun and drinking to relocate somewhere in the Miranda Room.

Hopefully now Dwan won't have to pay up the Tournament Director charity freeroll that he gave, as most know that motion and lots of alcohol don't fair too well!

Gaspard Doubles Terry

Todd Terry doubles up
Todd Terry doubles up
Jean "Prince" Gaspard called the all in of Todd Terry for a little under 25,000 chips in preflop action. Jimmy Tran got out of the way with his pocket fives. Terry held {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} and Gaspard held {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}.

The board ran out {J-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {9-Spades} {7-Spades} to earn Terry the double up. Tran would have hit trip fives and won the entire pot had he stayed in.

Terry - 54,000
Gaspard - 35,000

Hinkle Gambles but Bricks

On a flop of {J-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds} a player in the big blind fired a bet of 5,000 with Blair Hinkle making the call.

The turn fell the {6-Diamonds} and the big blind open-shipped it all in for a total of 29,875 to send Hinkle into the tank.

He eventually decided to gamble for the big pot and made the call with {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for a pair and straight draw, but he would need to improve against his opponent's {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

The river landed the {7-Hearts} and Hinkle doubles up his opponent but is still in fine shape with 116,000 chips.

That's a Lott of Chips

Lars Lose-AK
Lars Lose-AK
The gentleman in seat 1 raised, only for the gentleman in seat 2, one Steve Lott, to reraise.

Over to Sami Kelopuro in the small blind -- and he announced all in. Over to the gentleman on the big blind -- and he called all in! Mr. Seat 1 folded quickly -- but Lott went all in as well! Wah!

Kelopuro: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}
Mr. Big Blind: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}
Lott: {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}

Board: {6-Spades} {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}

Everyone is busto except for Mr. Lott, who has around 90,000. Wow.

Powell Dispatched by Karam

Catching the action on the flop of {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{Q-Spades} we found Marc Karam calling the all in of two players; including Julian Powell.

Marc Karam: {9-Spades}{5-Spades}
Julian Powell: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The turn dropped the {A-Spades} to send Powell to the rail, and when the {9-Hearts} fell on the river, Karam took the whole pot while climbing to just under 120,000 in chips.
