Slim Fattens Up His Stack

Amarillo Slim - My hand was this big.
Amarillo Slim - My hand was this big.
Amarillo Slim Preston and his opponent both checked a flop of {10-Spades}{K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} before the board paired with the {K-Spades} on the turn.

Preston's opponent bet 2,800 and Preston raised the action to 9,800. The call brought the {2-Spades} and both players checked before Preston showed {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a full house. He now has 80,000.

Wild Ride for Farha

Sammy Farha's been involved in a few recent hands on Orange 59, with mixed results. First Farha check-called a bet of 12,000 on the river of a board that showed {K-Spades} {5-Spades} {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}. Farha's opponent in that hand showed down {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} for two pair, kings and sevens. Farha mucked and dropped to 14,000.

A few hands later, a three-way pot developed with Farha involved again. 12,000 chips were in the middle preflop, with the action checking all the way to the river on a board of {J-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {2-Hearts}. It was there that Farha moved all in for 11,025. He was called by one opponent. Farha showed {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} and dragged the pot to climb back up to 32,000.

Baron Calls a Bluff

The board read {2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{J-Hearts} when the big blind bet 4,600 and Isaac Baron called from the cutoff. Both players checked the {7-Diamonds} on the turn and the big blind bet 12,000 when the {4-Spades} hit the river.

Baron counted out the chips for a call and pondered his action for more than 30 seconds before making the call. When his opponent showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for a busted straight draw, Baron tabled {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for top pair and took the pot.

Davis Exits Stage Left

Raymond Davis on Day 1b
Raymond Davis on Day 1b
"All in and a call, Table 153!" The cries are coming more frequently now from the dealers.

We hustle over to that table to see that the community cards are all out in the middle of the felt, showing {4-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}. The betting action isn't certain, but it appears that Raymond Davis led out with a bet, and Samer Rahman moved all in. Davis apparently called all in, but either way his tournament life was at risk. Rahman tabled {5-Spades} {3-Spades} for the trip threes, and Davis mucked his hand. He then grabbed them back from the muck, double-checked them, and then re-mucked them before heading out the door.

Davis' day is done.

Boutin's Gamble Pays Dividend

Burt Boutin must have been looking for a good spot to gamble. He found one when he pushed all in on a flop of {9-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {2-Clubs} with {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. One opponent called with {K-Diamonds} {k-Hearts} and the race was on. The {K-Clubs} that hit the turn was a great sweat card; it filled Boutin's flush but also gave his opponent a ten-card re-draw to a full house or quads. None of those ten cards hit the river. Instead it fell {3-Hearts} to secure the double-up to 65,000 for Boutin.

Sexton Slips.. But Just A Little

Well, Vince... I felt I had to call in that spot...
Well, Vince... I felt I had to call in that spot...
Mike Sexton just doubled up a short-stacked opponent, who shoved for 10,825 pre-flop with {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Sexton looked him up with {5-Spades} {5-Hearts}, but the jacks held on the {K-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {3-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {K-Hearts} board.

Sexton's stack is still healthy, though at 66,600.

Shaun Deeb Sends a Player Home

Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb
Vitaly Lunkin opened the pot for a 1,400 raise and two players called behind. Shaun Deeb was on the button and three bet to 6,200. The small blind folded and the big blind moved all in for 24,950. Action folded back around to Deeb who made the call.

Big blind: {A-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}
Deeb: {K-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}

The board came {J-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {6-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} giving Shaun Deeb the best hand with queens and jacks, king kicker.

He eliminates his opponent and moves to 75,000.

FBT Can Do No Wrong

Greg Mueller and ESPN commentator Norman Chad
Greg Mueller and ESPN commentator Norman Chad
It's been a good summer for Greg "FBT" Mueller and so far the Main Event has been an excellent capper.

First we saw Mueller limp involved in a heads-up pot that had been raised preflop by the small blind. On a flop of {A-Spades} {4-?} {A-Diamonds} the small blind moved in for his last 5,875. It was an easy call for Mueller with {A-Hearts} {8-Clubs}. The small blind showed down {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} and did not improve.

A few hands later, Mueller was the player in the blinds for a heads-up flop of {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {9-Clubs}. He checked and called a bet of 3,250 from his lone opponent. When the turn brought a third club, the {2-Clubs}, Mueller led into his opponent for 9,000. That player raised to 24,000 and practically before those chips were even in the middle Mueller had reraised all in. His opponent called with {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}, a pair of aces. Mueller showed {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} for a made flush and a lock hand.

Those two pots have pushed Mueller's count to 181,000.
